In a major announcement, BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd has announced that it will reserve jobs for former Agniveers, who are young recruits from the Indian armed forces under the Agnipath Scheme. With this announcement BrahMos Aerospace becomes the 1st Private Company to reserve jobs for Agniveers.
Notably, the Agniveer scheme announced by the Modi government recruits individuals aged 17.5 to 21 for a four-year tenure. It imparts them military training and technical skills. For those unversed, BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd is the Indo-Russian joint venture which is known for manufacturing the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.
According to the announcement, BrahMos plans to reserve at least 15 percent of technical vacancies for Agniveers along with 50 percent of administrative and security positions, including outsourced roles.
The company is focused on integrating Agniveers into its workforce. It has also urged over 200 industry partners to adopt a similar approach, thereby impacting the defence sector in a broader sense.
The CEO and MD of BrahMos Aerospace, Atul Dinkar Rane emphasized the benefits of hiring Agniveers. He said, “They are going to be trained and disciplined, and we will not have to spend resources on extra training.”
This newly announced initiative is expected to create skilled and disciplined workforce within the organization.
Deputy CEO Dr. SK Joshi expressed confidence in the broader Indian defense industry embracing this approach as the first batch of Agniveers graduates.
The company’s commitment aligns with the Indian government’s objectives under the Agnipath Scheme that is aimed at modernizing the armed forces and ensuring a skilled workforce in various sectors.
BrahMos has noted that Agniveers will play a critical role in addressing the skills gap within the defense industry, positioning both the organization and the nation for growth.
Reservations in different organizations
Currently, Agniveers benefit from a 10 percent reservation in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and other state government job quotas, further facilitating their transition to civilian roles. For instance, Haryana has announced a 10 percent quota for Agniveers in select government jobs, along with a subsidy for industries hiring them. Similarly, the Uttar Pradesh government is providing weightage in state police recruitment.
As BrahMos Aerospace continues to innovate in defense technology, their decision to prioritize Agniveers highlights a strategic commitment to harness the potential of these trained individuals.
The company believes that the integration of Agniveers will not only strengthen its workforce but also contribute significantly to India’s defense and industrial sectors as the nation moves toward becoming a developed economy by 2047.
