Vote Bank Politics: PM Modi Sheds Light on Kanhaiya Lal Case Controversy

The Kanhaiya Lal case: In the past five years, Rajasthan has found itself in a fierce competition with other states. However, this competition isn’t about better administration or solid infrastructure but revolves around who can be more appeasing to religious minorities. This approach has inadvertently turned Rajasthan into a living nightmare for its residents.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to address this alarming situation in his latest speech at Chittorgarh. In a significant move, he openly discussed the Kanhaiya Lal case, which had sent shockwaves throughout the nation due to its association with religious extremism.

Kanhaiya Lal, a Hindu tailor with a shop in Udaipur’s Maldas Street, fell victim to a gruesome murder. Two Islamists, identified as Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad, posed as customers and brutally beheaded him before making a horrifying video of the act that went viral. This incident sent shockwaves across the nation, raising concerns about Islamic extremism.

PM Modi did not mince his words as he criticized the Congress government in Rajasthan for its handling of the Kanhaiya Lal case.

He stated, “Did you ever imagine something like what happened in Udaipur? Such a heinous crime occurred in the land of Rajasthan, which has a tradition of not resorting to deceitful attacks, even against enemies. The murderers pretended to get clothes stitched and then callously severed the tailor’s neck. And the Congress government seems more concerned about its vote bank than justice.”

But PM Modi’s critique did not stop there. He went on to highlight the broader issues plaguing Rajasthan under the Congress government. He questioned the image that the Congress had projected to the world, stating, “What kind of image of the brave land of Rajasthan has been presented by the Congress to the world? It is not possible to celebrate any festival in Rajasthan peacefully. No one knows when riots will break out or when a curfew will be imposed.”

The Kanhaiya Lal case was just one among a series of murders committed by Islamic extremists in response to criticism of their religious figure, Nupur Sharma. PM Modi expressed his deep concern about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and its impact on the lives of ordinary citizens. He emphasized that only a BJP government could bring about the necessary changes and restore peace and development.

PM Modi also labeled the Congress administration in the state as a ‘kursi bachao sarkar’ (a government trying to save its seat). He brought up issues like women’s safety, the deteriorating law and order situation, and the presence of a “paper leak mafia” in the state, accusing the Ashok Gehlot-led government of prioritizing its own interests over the welfare of the people.

In his speech, PM Modi pointed out Rajasthan’s alarming crime statistics, highlighting its unenviable position at the top of the crime ranking. He criticized the mismanagement that had characterized the five-year rule of the Congress government, suggesting that it had left the state in a state of disarray.

PM Modi’s speech in Chittorgarh shed light on the dire situation in Rajasthan, where appeasement politics and religious extremism have taken precedence over governance and development. The Kanhaiya Lal case served as a stark reminder of the challenges facing the state.
