PoK India merge: The issue of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) holds a special place in the hearts of every Indian. It’s a matter of great significance and sentiment, and recently, former Army Chief and current Union Minister, General VK Singh (retd.), has made a bold statement about its future.
General VK Singh, now a Union Minister, has sparked a buzz by stating that PoK will soon merge with India “on its own.” In a press briefing in Dausa, Rajasthan, the retired General playfully remarked, “PoK will merge with India on its own, wait for some time.”
He made these comments in response to questions about the demands of the people in PoK who desire the region’s integration with India and sought to know the BJP’s stance on this matter.

General VK Singh also took the opportunity to discuss the success of the recently concluded G20 Summit, which India hosted. He expressed his pride in India’s exceptional role on the world stage and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. General Singh stated, “The G-20 meeting was unprecedented. It has never been done before, and no other country except India can organize a summit like this. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has proved its mettle in the world. The G-20 group includes all the powerful countries of the world.”
To put General VK Singh’s statement into context, it’s important to understand that it didn’t come out of nowhere. The people of PoK have long been disheartened by the continuous harassment by Pakistani authorities. Recent events, such as the arrest of a cleric, triggered mass demonstrations, with some protesters even demanding integration with India.

Supporting these claims further, Kashmiri activist Shabir Chaudhary revealed that in the past three months, the cost of electricity has doubled in Pakistan, causing widespread anger and protests. In PoK, heavy taxes on essential commodities like wheat flour have made life difficult for the local population.
The citizens of PoK have endured decades of hardship under Pakistan’s rule and are seeking help from India, which has become a beacon of hope amid their economic struggles.
Kashmiris argue that Pakistan’s government has consistently treated people living in Gilgit Baltistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as second-class citizens, in stark contrast to the favoritism shown to Punjab, which remains a privileged province.
General VK Singh’s statement, though bold, reflects the growing frustration and discontent among the people of PoK. Their pleas for integration with India resonate with the struggles they have faced over the years. The issue of PoK has always been a sensitive one for India, with its historical and emotional significance. The region, which rightfully belongs to India, has been under Pakistan’s control since the partition in 1947. Matters were made worse by PM Jawaharlal Nehru’s illogical rush to the UN by late 1948 to solve the Kashmir issue.
