In a relentless effort to combat terrorism and dismantle radical networks, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified its crackdown on the Popular Front of India (PFI) with a renewed vigor. Recent developments have demonstrated that the NIA’s story with PFI is far from over. The latest target in their investigation is PFI Green Valley Academy in Malappuram, Kerala, which the NIA alleges to be the oldest and largest arms and physical training center of the organization in the state.

The NIA’s allegations are nothing short of shocking, claiming that the academy served as a training ground for imparting arms training, physical training, and instruction on the use and testing of explosives to PFI cadres identified as part of their ‘Service Wing.’ Additionally, the facility reportedly became a safe haven for several PFI Service Wing members after they had committed crimes, including murders. The gravity of these accusations highlights the scale and severity of the terror activities that the NIA is investigating.
One aspect that raises eyebrows is the role of the state government in allowing such activities to go unchecked for so long. The NIA’s crackdown has exposed the apparent inaction or lack of awareness by the Keralite authorities regarding the activities of the PFI. Questions arise as to why these properties were allowed to function without any intervention or investigation by local law enforcement agencies. This raises concerns about the overall state of counter-terrorism efforts and the need for better coordination between national and state agencies.

The NIA’s attachment of 18 PFI-owned properties in Kerala under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) further reinforces the seriousness of their investigation and the potential scale of the alleged terror network. Alongside Green Valley Academy, other prominent properties targeted include Malabar House, Periyar Valley, Valluvanad House, Karunya Charitable Trust, and Trivandrum Education and Service Trust (TEST). These attachments signal the NIA’s determination to follow the trail of evidence wherever it leads, even if it implicates powerful or well-established institutions.
The NIA’s actions against PFI come in the context of heightened global concern over the rise of extremism and terrorism. It underscores the need for countries worldwide to strengthen their counter-terrorism strategies and collaborate on intelligence sharing to thwart the transnational reach of such groups.
The NIA’s relentless crackdown on PFI and the attachment of properties, including Green Valley Academy, highlights the ongoing battle against terrorism in India. The seriousness of the allegations points to the necessity for improved vigilance and cooperation among national and state authorities. As the investigations continue, it is essential for the justice system to uphold the principles of fairness and impartiality, ensuring that any convictions are based on robust evidence and adherence to the rule of law.
