In a recent chat show hosted by the esteemed food journalist Kunal Vijayakar, the legendary Sudha Murty shared her thoughts on her dietary preferences. The horror! She proclaimed, “I am a pure vegetarian; I don’t even eat eggs or garlic. What I am scared of is that the same spoon might be used for both, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. It weighs heavily on my mind a lot! So, whenever we go out, I only search for vegetarian restaurants. Or, I carry one bag full of food items.”
Now, if you thought this was just a conversation about maintaining pure vegetarianism and a code of conduct, you are sadly mistaken! The ever-vigilant left-liberals were quick to unleash their wrath, connecting Sudha Murty’s food preferences with her caste. Yes, apparently, being a Brahmin and proudly owning up to her vegetarian choices is now a grave sin!

Asia Editor at The Independent, Rituparna Chatterjee, in all her wisdom, took to Twitter to claim that Sudha Murty and her husband Narayan Murthy sound “weirder and casteist” as they speak more. Because, obviously, being pure vegetarians must mean they are plotting some grand caste conspiracy, right?

But wait, Sudha Murthy Food Controversy gets better! The same left-liberals who condemn pure vegetarianism as casteist are the ones supporting Halal certification of food items. The irony is palpable! For those unaware, Halal certification discriminates against non-Muslims, imposing religious connotations on ‘non-believers.’ But hey, that’s totally cool, right? Being a “pure vegetarian” is the real threat here!
Noted storyteller and journalist Neelesh Misra couldn’t resist poking fun at the absurdity of it all. He rightly wondered how being vegetarian or carrying your own cutlery makes one casteist. Oh, the audacity of logic!
