There exists a love story. Not your typical boy-meets-girl saga, but a tale filled with passion, vitriol, and a dash of obsession. This saga featured none other than the charismatic Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the illustrious Congress-led Opposition.
Let’s look at how the penchant of Opposition for pointing fingers and mocking PM Modi has spiraled into a never-ending love saga.
The fatal obsession
The nature of obsession is such that it clouds judgement and often leads to self-destruction. The Opposition, it appears, took the concept of obsession a bit too literally, like a child who just discovered a new toy and wouldn’t let go. Each time the Indian leader embarked on state visits, the Opposition seemed to focus less on his conduct or the potential benefits of his visit and more on the ‘fascinating’ act of dissecting his English.
Now, this isn’t just any English we’re talking about. This is the English of a man who commands the respect of the masses in Hindi and Gujarati, a man who has achieved more in his lifetime than the average person could in several. Yet, the Opposition appears to have the time and energy to nitpick his English. One must wonder if they’re auditioning for a spot on a future season of ‘English Vinglish Idol.’

Scoring self-goals, the Congress way!
The act of belittling a person’s English is not just a direct assault on the person but a disrespectful gesture towards millions of Indians who have, through hard work and determination, succeeded despite studying in government-aided or community-run institutions. But then, this is what Congress seems to excel at: scoring self-goals while attempting to trip others. Even Thomas aka Tom Cat has more sense than these minions, with IQ lesser than the room temperature!
The Opposition’s reactions ranged from juvenile name-calling like “You aunty!” and “That hag old man” to bizarre comments like “Teleprompter” and “Gobar Sanghis”. The condescension towards ordinary Indians and their faith in their leader was glaring. However, the cherry on top was the misguided belief that this was all in retaliation for Modi mispronouncing two English words during a six-day visit comprising over 50 engagements across two countries. I must say, the Opposition certainly doesn’t lack imagination!
Some Opposition enthusiasts defended their master, Rahul Gandhi, with remarks like, “Rahul Gandhi made the right call when he paid more attention to his dog than to Himanta Biswa Sarma!” That comment alone speaks volumes about their political acumen.

“English no more the wild card to success!”
The success of leaders like Modi, Yogi Adityanath, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Annamalai, who may not speak fluent English, serves as a beacon of hope. They represent a confident India, an India unshackled by the chains of colonial-era English elitism. These leaders have rekindled our pride in our mother tongues, a reality that seems to irk the Congress. It seems Bhagat Singh’s prophecy about the ‘Brown Sahibs’ replacing the ‘White Sahibs’ is coming true!
This love story, dear readers, is a comedy of errors, a demonstration of misplaced priorities, and a classic case of ‘if I can’t have you, no one can’. As we watch this saga unfold, popcorn in hand, we can only hope that the Opposition realises that their unrequited love for Modi could be better spent on constructive criticism and real development.
