Looks like the current situation for Tukde Tukde Gang is really bad. Their attempts to defame PM Modi have been ruined, both in India as well as abroad. In this very scenario, Soros lover and notorious anarchist Harsh Mander seems to be having a hard time, with his beloved CES under ‘severe scrutiny’.
Let’s look into the recent allegations on Harsh Mander, and why things might get only worse for him from here on!
FCRA of CES suspended
In a move that could send shockwaves through India’s civil society sector, the Centre for Equity Studies (CES), a non-profit organization founded by the self-proclaimed intellectual and former National Advisory Council (NAC) member, Harsh Mander, faces an impending shutdown. This alarming development has resulted from allegations of financial misconduct related to the misuse of foreign funds.
The closure of CES is primarily linked to the suspension of the NGO’s Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) license. This suspension follows claims of misappropriation of funds, including payments to authors made from the CES’s FCRA account and allegations of funds being used for purposes other than those declared.

The NGO, despite receiving a notice in March 2023, could not provide a satisfactory response to the allegations, leading to the suspension of its FCRA license. Critics argue that Mander, faced with these challenges, is resorting to portraying himself as a victim rather than addressing the concerns raised by the authorities.

First time, huh?
These developments are not happening in a vacuum. Over the past 2-3 years, Mander’s organizations have been under intense scrutiny from Indian authorities. Mander, known for his close association with Sonia Gandhi and his collaboration with George Soros’s “Open Society Foundation,” has become a prominent figure in the crosshairs of the government.
In many ways, the actions against Mander’s NGOs may be interpreted as India sending a stern message to global organizations such as Soros’s Foundation. These events emphasize a strong stance against perceived attempts to disrupt India’s sovereignty under the guise of philanthropy.
Moreover, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry against Aman Biradari, another NGO founded by Mander. The organization claims to work with various people’s groups and organizations to defend secularism, stimulate public compassion, and propagate constitutional values. However, these lofty goals are now overshadowed by accusations that they may have been used as a cover to facilitate dubious foreign funding activities. Also, Harsh Mander is facing intense scrutiny for his role in backing the anarchists who wreaked havoc in the North East Delhi during early 2020, the same time when ex US President Donald Trump had made a visit to India.
Why is this necessary?
The investigations against Mander and his organizations bring to light the necessity for NGOs to adhere strictly to FCRA and other associated laws. Such adherence ensures that foreign funds are appropriately utilized for their intended purposes, thus maintaining the integrity of the NGOs and bolstering public trust in their operations.

While the future of Harsh Mander’s NGOs remains uncertain amidst these developments, it is essential for all stakeholders to uphold the foundational goal of promoting social justice and public interest. Despite the unfolding controversies, the crucial role of civil society organizations in shaping India’s socio-political landscape should not be undermined. However, stringent accountability measures are crucial to ensure the sustainable and responsible growth of this sector.
