“Time Machine” (2013)
“Time Machine” was a science fiction film directed by Shekhar Kapur and starring Aamir Khan. The film aimed to explore the concept of time travel and was expected to be a visual spectacle. “Paani” (2013)
“Paani” was a passion project of renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who envisioned a dystopian tale set in a water-scarce future. The film was set to star Sushant Singh Rajput and marked Kapur’s return to Indian cinema after a long hiatus. However, due to financial constraints and production issues, “Paani” faced numerous roadblocks and eventually got shelved. The film’s shelving was a significant blow to both Kapur and Rajput’s aspirations.
“Shuddhi” (2014)
“Shuddhi” was initially announced as a collaboration between two of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film was touted as an epic love story set in ancient times. However, due to several delays, casting changes, and creative differences, the project was put on hold indefinitely. It was a major disappointment for fans who were eagerly waiting to see the much-loved pair reunite on the big screen.

“Mera Naam Joker 2” (Unknown)
“Mera Naam Joker,” a classic film by the legendary Raj Kapoor, left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. In the early 2000s, there were talks of a sequel to this iconic film. Raj Kapoor’s son, Rishi Kapoor, who played the lead in the original, expressed his interest in reprising his role. However, the project never materialized, possibly due to creative challenges in capturing the essence of the original while providing a fresh perspective.
“Gulab Jamun” (2018)
“Gulab Jamun” was supposed to mark the on-screen reunion of real-life couple Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan after a long gap. The film narrated the story of a married couple and was considered an interesting choice for the duo. However, the project faced delays, and the actors were unsure about the script’s execution. Eventually, “Gulab Jamun” was put on hold, leaving fans disappointed.
“Takht” [2020]
This was a rare movie that was withdrawn due to public pressure. Director Karan Johar aimed to create his own legacy like that created by K Asif with “Mughal e Azam”. The movie had a host of popular actors like Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Anil Kapoor to begin with, the Mughal Empire serving as the backdrop.
The announcement came almost just after “Tanhaji” was in the news for its brave take on the Mughals. However, the public sentiments, as well as screenwriter Hussain Haidry’s involvement in the anarchist anti CAA protests, forced the makers to put this project on hold indefinitely.
