No matter what you say, “The Kerala Story” has succeeded in at least one thing: Make that change! Whether you shower accolades or brickbats, but none of the Indians could ignore it. While there are many factors behind the same, there is one force whom none has given attention to.
Oh, the obsession!
Now you must have witnessed many kind of fans. Fans who die for their team or star, fans who fight on every random issue, fans who consider their idol as God. But The Indian Express is totally different brother.
See, “The Kerala Story” is such a film, which under no circumstances was going to go down well with the leftist media, and that is exactly what happened. But don’t know why The Indian Express gave us the vibes of Dulha Raja’s Johnny Lever, seeing whom all the leftists would say, “Tu uski taraf hai ki meri taraf” [Are you on his side or on my side.]

How is that? The Indian Express, as it were, opened a special section for “The Kerala Story”. Ever since the film was released, at least one or two articles per day have been devoted to it. Naturally, the performance of the film, its various aspects, etc. have to be shown. But it’s not just about analysis!
Even The Wire and The Quint look amateurs
Let’s start with their review. The film, along the lines of The Film Companion, described it as a poorly thought out and poorly acted nonsense. Well, not everyone may like the film, but its reviewer is Shubhra Gupta, who will not give less than 3 stars to the biggest feminist films, and will also be stingy in giving 3 stars to good films.
Now this is about Shubhra, but The Indian Express did not stop there. What even The Wire and The Quint could not do for “Tanhaji”, The Indian Express did for “The Kerala Story”.

The film was deemed as controversial at the drop of a hat. When the demand for its ban arose, the portal reportedly even put-up posts in support of it. Not only this, when Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas lambasted the film, airing his frustration, the Indian Express not only supported him, but also promoted his film “2018” as the “Real Kerala Story”. Whatever one may say, one has to appreciate their enthusiasm on this subject.
Apart from this, when Resul Pookutty opened a front against this film after “RRR”, this portal also offered him tremendous support. Not only this, when “Afvaah” [which released on the same day as The Kerala Story] flopped, even its director Sudhir Mishra was not as unhappy as The Indian Express was. In that too it tried its best to blame “The Kerala Story”. Dear Vipul Amritlal Shah, Adah Sharma and other creators of The Kerala Story, we sincerely specially request you to offer a special gift for their services to The Indian Express without delay. God knows since when they are craving for the same!
