Srinivas BV controversy: Slogans have a very profound impact on those who are listening to them. People relate themselves to the slogan and consequently believe that is the best manifestation of their aspirations. But what happens if those slogans are just hollow rhetoric with no substance? Before the 2022 Uttar Pradesh elections, Priyanka Gandhi took charge of the campaign and portrayed herself as a fighting girl under the slogan “Ladki hu, lad sakti hun.” But just after a year, it seems that the party has denounced the concept of women’s empowerment as if it never existed as a core agenda.
Srinivas BV controversy: Congress Youth leader harassed
In a controversy series of tweets on April 16, Dr. Angkita Dutta, the head of the Indian Youth Congress’s (IYC) Assam branch, accused the IYC’s national leader, Srinivas BV, of gender-based discrimination and mental harassment. She is the daughter of Anjan Dutta, who previously served as a minister in Assam’s Tarun Gogoi government and led the state unit of the party.
Through various tweets, Dutta criticised Priyanka Gandhi and her brother, Rahul Gandhi, for not taking any measures against Srinivas despite her grievances. Despite her complaints, “no inquiry committee has been initiated against Srinivas”, she said.
Ironically, Rahul preaches what he does not believe
According to her, she visited Kashmir during the Bharat Jodo Yatra and complained to him, but her complaint went unheard. She said, “I had a lot of faith in Rahul Gandhi and went to Jammu during the Bharat Jodo Yatra to appraise him of Srinivas BV’s harassment and demeaning use of language towards me. It’s April now, and still no enquiry against him.”
Interestingly, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kashmir, Rahul Gandhi criticised the BJP for creating an environment where women are raped and not able to reveal the truth. It looks like he himself is not following the principles that he preaches.

Firing Srinivas is the only way out
Srinivas BV controversy and these allegations and are serious ones, and as a senior party leader working at the national level is accused, Congress must take measures to deal with them. As revealed by Dr. Dutta, she kept silent because she had faith in the party leadership, especially Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. But now her lack of willpower to take action has made her open up publicly.
In order to maintain political relevance and to demonstrate a commitment to justice, the Congress party must take immediate action by firing Srinivas. This is the necessary course of action moving forward.
