Nataraja Temple is a famous temple located in the heart of Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. One of the five Panchaboothas, the Nataraja Temple is a place of deep religious significance for Hindus that attracts thousands of devotees every year. The Nataraja Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is worshiped as Nataraja. Spread over a 40-acre campus in the heart of the city, the Nataraja Temple is one of the most beautiful examples of Chola architecture.
History of this Temple
Chidambaram Nataraja Temple is one of the oldest temples in India, the architecture of the temple is of around 5th century, thus it is said that the construction of Nataraja temple was done in the 5th century during Chola rule. The earliest mention of the “dancing deity of Chidambaram” is found in the 6th and early 7th century texts by Apart and Sambhar.
Chidambaram Nataraja Temple architecture is an architectural treasure which is famous for its massive walls, artistic carvings and attractive inscriptions. In this temple, along with the main deity, idols of Devi, Vishnu, Subrahmanyar, Ganesha, Nandi and other deities are also installed.

Chidambaram Nataraja Temple opens at 6:00 AM in the morning and close at 8:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 7:30 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 7:00 PM in the evening.

By Road- Nataraja Temple is well connected to nearby cities via road through Chidambaram. So you can easily reach Nataraja temple through bus also. Apart from the bus, you can also come here by taking a self drive or hiring a taxi from nearby cities.
