Saudi Arabia and India counter terrorism initiatives: The generous charity and easy money from their co-religionist countries had been the only saving grace for Pakistan, since its inception. But now, this security cover provided by the Islamic Brotherhood to Pakistan is collapsing like a house of cards. The Muslim Ummah has not only ditched Pakistan but has also started to humiliate and shame Pakistan for its unholy acts. The recent decision by Saudi Arabia is a major blow to Pakistan’s only thriving industry, that is, the military-jihad complex.

India, Saudi Arabia Unite to Fight Terrorism

As per the latest media reports, India and Saudi Arabia have joined hands to combat terrorism. Reports add that information will be exchanged between Riyadh and New Delhi on a real-time basis. This will greatly enhance the fight against terrorism and help Saudi Arabia and India to cooperate on counter terrorism measures.

Reports claim that on March 28th, the Saudi Arabian Cabinet approved an order on this line. The Saudi Cabinet has decided that India’s external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), and the Presidency of State Security (PSS) will now extensively cooperate in the field of combating and financing terrorists.

This intelligence sharing and counter terrorism measures will have far-reaching implications and will have devastating impact on perennial headache for the world, yes, Pakistan. It will also boost India’s security apparatus and nations’ efforts to crush terror outfits.

It is important to note that the PSS was born in July 2017. Back then, the Saudi rulers carried out a massive reshuffle in their security apparatus. Further, the security matters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are overseen by this PSS group.

Earlier in February 2019, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Bin Salman aka MBS, visited India. The aim of his visit was to deepen strategic ties with India.

During his India visit, Crown Prince MBS initiated talks to increase cooperation between the two countries in the fields of intelligence sharing and strategic security. This had been a long standing demand of the Indian side, and the reason for it was pretty obvious.

Striking Pakistan’s spine: The Terror Economy

For decades, Saudi Arabia and the UAE had turned into a safe haven for terror groups that carried out attacks against India on the behest of Pakistan’s ISI.

Several terror outfits used these Gulf nations as a safe haven to get in touch with their financiers, supporters, and partners. Consequently, they hatched and coordinated terror attacks, as was seen earlier in the form of the 9/11 twin tower terror attacks and the dastardly 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

It is claimed that India stepped up its game and pursued a stringent anti-terror policy after the ghastly Mumbai terror attacks. The increased pursuit by India started compelling the Saudis to cooperate with India on key security and sovereignty matters.

This changed stance was witnessed when the Saudis arrested and deported Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari, aka “Abu Jundal”, on June 25th, 2012. He was one of the main perpetrators of the Mumbai attack.

Contrary to this, earlier in August 2008, India’s security concerns fell on deaf ears. Despite India’s strong opposition to the move, the Saudi security forces decided to let go of 1993 Mumbai blast accused Anees Ibrahim after arresting him at Jeddah airport.

Security experts highlight that cooperation has drastically improved both in terms of speed and scale in the last few years. Now, under Bin Salman, Saudi Arabia has been trying to diversify its economy and invest in countries like India to sustain its growth and geopolitical importance after the hard shift from oil by the major economies of the world.

To improve ties with India, Saudi Arabia has been making extensive efforts to get itself off the infamous list of Gulf countries that worked as “Jihadi centres.”.

For this reason, Saudi Arabia has launched considerable policy reforms under MBS’s leadership. This has been done to clear its negative reputation of being a protectorate of terrorist elements. This has resulted in a sharp decrease in official support for countless jihadist finance networks operating in Saudi Arabia, including those that received assistance from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). They are now compelled to look for other bases in the area.

The active exchange of real-time information on counter terrorism initiatives between Saudi Arabia and India has shown to be advantageous for both nations. With its extremely effective intelligence network in the Gulf, the PSS has established itself as a valued ally for Indian agencies that have long sought a reliable partner in the area.

This worldwide partnership offers a striking illustration of how teamwork may actually make a difference in the ongoing war against terrorism, even though the specifics of their cooperation are kept private.

In addition to Saudi Arabia, the UAE too has been increasing its cooperation with India and pushing Pakistan to the sidelines. Alongside India, UAE is in three strategic groupings, namely I2U2, which comprises India-Israel-US-UAE; the second group is India-UAE-France (the Rafale group); and the third is India-Israel-UAE for trade enhancement. In geopolitical circles, it is an open secret that UAE follows a similar foreign policy as Saudi does. On that line, the UAE too is supposed to deepen its intelligence-sharing agreement with India.

In fact, earlier in February 2022, India and the UAE agreed to enhance maritime cooperation, contributing to the maintenance of peace and security in the region, and affirmed their commitment to fighting cross-border terror.

This enhanced cooperation in tackling cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan is a big win for India against our North-Western neighbour. Now, India will find it easier to hunt Pakistan-backed terrorists who have made Dubai or other Gulf cities their second home, or better to say their lab, for scripting terror attacks. In addition to the manhunt, India will be able to strike hard on the financial network of these Jihadi outfits.
