History of this temple

The Kapaleeshwarar Temple Chennai is accepted to have been worked by the Pallava line in the seventh century Promotion. However, the Vijayanagara Empire, which ruled the area in the 16th century, is credited with creating the temple’s current design. The Chola and Pandya dynasties also saw renovations and expansions to the temple. Kapaleeshwarar, which translates to “lord of the skull,” is the name given to Lord Shiva, whose temple is dedicated to him. A shrine dedicated to the goddess Parvati, also known as Karpagambal, can be found in the temple.

The Kapaleeshwarar Temple Chennai is available to guests consistently from 5:30 am to 12:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The daily poojas and rituals, which take place four times a day at 6:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 8:00 p.m., are open to devotees.

The most significant festival held at the Kapaleeshwarar Temple is Brahmotsavam. During the Tamil month of Panguni (March-April), it is a ten-day celebration. The temple is illuminated and various cultural events are held during this festival.

Arupathimoovar is a Tamil festival that takes place in the months of December and January to honor the sixty-three Nayanmars, devotees of Lord Shiva.

Vinayaka Chaturthi – This celebration is commended in the Tamil month of Avani (August-September) to respect Master Ganesha, the child of Ruler Shiva.

Navaratri is a nine-day festival held in honor of the goddess Durga during the Tamil month of Purattasi (September-October).

The temple also celebrates Mahashivaratri, Diwali, and Pongal, all of which are significant festivals.
