Karnataka Hasanamba Temple – Guide

Karnataka Hasanamba Temple is in Hassan district of Karnataka. It is famous all over India for its miracles. Hasanamba Temple opens during Diwali and then closes again for a year. The historical belief about the temple is associated with Lord Shiva many ages ago. According to the Hindu calendar, on the first Thursday of every Ashwin month, this temple is opened for devotees only for a week. The reason why Hasanamba temple located in Hassan district is famous is the miracle that happened here.

History of this Temple

The belief about Karnataka Hasanamba Temple is associated with Lord Shiva many ages ago. There was a demon named Andhakasur. He had obtained the boon of being invisible from Brahma ji by doing severe penance. After getting such a boon, Andhakasur created atrocities all around. In such a situation, Lord Shiva took the initiative to end Andhakasura. But due to the boon of Brahma ji, he had to fight hard with Andhakasura. Then Lord Shiva created Yogeshwari with his powers, who destroyed Andhakasura.

7 goddesses came with Yogeshwari, who were called Saptamatrika. These Saptamatrikas were Brahmi, Maheshwari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Indrani and Chamundi. These seven goddesses were coming towards Kashi from the southern part but on the way they found a place so beautiful that they decided to reside there. This place is Hassan. The Hasanamba Temple was built by the kings of the Hoysala dynasty in the 12^th century.

Festival celebrated in Karnataka Hasanamba Temple

According to the Hindu calendar, on the first Thursday of every Ashwin month, this temple is opened for devotees only for a week. Hasanamba Jatra festival is celebrated during this time. Devotees from every corner of the country come to visit the mother when the doors of the temple are opened. After this, special rituals are organized in the temple for the last two days, during which Karnataka Hasanamba Temple remains closed for common devotees.

Dwarasamudra, the capital of the Hoysalas, is the main attraction here and at that time French missionaries also went through this city. This place is few kms away from this temple.

Manjarabad

18^th century Manjarabad Fort is the best place. It is an Islamic architectural building built by Tipu Sultan. This place is few kms away from this.

Shetihali village

Visit Shetihali village situated on the banks of Hemavathi river. This village was settled in 1860 by the French Missionary. This place is at a distance of few kms away from this temple.
