Erode Bannari Amman Temple – Guide
The Bannari Amman Temple in the picturesque village of Bannari in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu, India, is a well-known Hindu temple. The goddess Bannari Amman, who is believed to be an embodiment of Shakti, the divine feminine energy, is honored in the temple.
History of the Erode Bannari Amman Temple
The historical backdrop of the Erode Bannari Amman Temple traces all the way back to a few centuries prior. A rock with a natural groove was found by a group of hunters, according to local legend. They were amazed to see water flow into a nearby ant hill as they poured water into the groove, revealing a divine idol. Around the anthill, the villagers built a temple where the goddess Bannari Amman was enshrined.
The temple is well-known for its ornate carvings and exquisite architecture. The idol of Bannari Amman can be found in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum. It depicts him holding eight weapons and symbols. Several additional shrines are housed in the temple, some of which are dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, and Lord Murugan, among others.
Erode Bannari Amman Temple Timings
Every day, the temple is open to the public from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Abhishekam (bathing the idol with milk, honey, and other liquids), archana (offering flowers and prayers), and annadanam (offering food) are some of the rituals and offerings that devotees can take part in.

How to reach Erode Bannari Amman Temple
It is not difficult to get to the Bannari Amman Temple. Coimbatore International Airport is the closest airport, about 80 kilometers from the temple. Erode Junction, located approximately 25 kilometers away, is the closest station on the railway. The temple can be reached by bus or taxi from both Coimbatore and Erode.

Festivals celebrated in this temple
The Bannari Amman Temple is well-known for its colorful and lively festivals, which devotees from all over India celebrate with great enthusiasm. The following are some of the most well-liked celebrations held in the temple:
Poosam in Thai: This festival honors Lord Murugan and is held in the Tamil month of Thai (January/February). As a form of penance, devotees participate in processions and carry kavadis—decorated wooden or metal structures—on their shoulders.
Navaratri: This celebration is commended more than nine days in the Tamil month of Purattasi (September/October) and is committed to the goddess Durga. Special pujas and rituals are performed each day to honor a different goddess form.
Pongal: This harvest festival honors the Sun God and is held in the Tamil month of Thai (January/February). For a plentiful harvest, devotees offer prayers and praise to the Sun God.
Diwali: This festival of lights honors the goddess Lakshmi and is held in the Tamil month of Aippasi (October/November). Candles are lit and prayers are made to the goddess for wealth and prosperity.
