Ashtalakshmi Temple Chennai – Guide
Ashtalakshmi Temple is a hindu temple which is located in Besant Nagar, Chennai. This temple is located few kms away from the beach from where a beautiful view of the Bay of Bengal is seen. Ashtalakshmi is known as the goddess of wealth and knowledge. This ashtalakshmi Temple was built to worship the eighth form of Maa Saraswati in the same temple.
History of this Temple
This construction of Ashtalakshmi Temple was started in the year 1974 and the construction was completed on 5 April 1976 in the presence of 44th Guru of the Ahobila Mutt Vedanta Desika Yatheendra Mahadesikan Swami.
According to Veda and puranas goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean during the churning of Milkey ocean. The shrines of the eight forms of Goddess Lakshmi is situated in four separate sanctums of the temple. The main shrine of Goddess Lakshmi and Vishnu is situated on the second level.
Best time to visit Ashtalakshmi Temple
The festivals celebrated in Ashtalakshmi Temple are Pavitra Utsavam, Dhanur Masa Pooja, Janmashtami in the month of September or October Navratri in the month of September or October Deepawali in the month of October or November, Karthigai Deepam, English New Year, Pongal, and Tamil New Year’s Day.
Ashtalakshmi Temple Timings
Ashtalakshmi Temple opens from 6:30 AM to 12:00 Noon in the morning and from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 8:00 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 7:30 PM in the evening.
