Mamata Banerjee TRP attack: Be it 2014 or 2019, the Congress, along with other opposition parties, has tried to stitch together an alliance. An opposition alliance, with the sole aim of defeating the BJP juggernaut, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the modern-day Chanakya of Indian politics, Amit Shah. The idea of ‘opposition unity’ was gaining momentum in the wake of general elections.
However, with the Mahagathbandhans’ falling flat on their faces, the parties have begun debunking each other’s credibility. There has been a pattern of parties calling other parties the “B-team of the BJP. The recent remarks of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee can be seen in the same light.
Mamata Banerjee calls Rahul Gandhi ‘PM Modi’s biggest TRP.”
Mamata Banerjee has once again mounted an TRP attack on the Congress party, calling Rahul Gandhi, the former Congress chief, the “biggest TRP”. While addressing party workers in Murshidabad during a party meeting on Sunday, Banerjee said that the Bhartiya Janata Party is trying to make a hero out of Rahul Gandhi, alleging that this is being done so that ‘no one questions Prime Minister Narendra Modi.’ She said, “The BJP is trying to divert attention from the burning issues by stalling the parliament’s proceedings over Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks in the United Kingdom.”

Alleging that the BJP wants to install Rahul Gandhi as the leader of opposition, Mamata Banerjee said that Rahul Gandhi is the “biggest TRP” of PM Modi. Banerjee also accused Congress of failing in its fight against the BJP.
Congress counters, and the war of words begins
The Congress party has responded to the allegations made by the West Bengal chief minister, and a war of words has begun between the two parties. Congressman Adhir Ranjan Choudhary has accused Banerjee of speaking on the directions of the BJP. He said, “Mamata Banerjee is speaking on the directions of the PM. PM and ‘did’ have a deal to defame the image of Rahul Gandhi and Congress. She wants to save herself from ED-CBI raids; that’s why she is against Congress, and with this PM, I will be happy.” While Derek O’Brein has said that the Congress should refrain from calling itself the ‘big boss’ of opposition, Choudhary has hit back, saying that the Trinamool was created out of the Congress.

The hunger to be the “FACE”
Mamata Banerjee TRP attack comes just two days after the party announced to stay away from the Congress, in context with the upcoming general elections. The TMC supremo had also accused the Congress of getting into an unholy nexus with the CPI(M) and BJP after the Sagardighi by-election.
The actual race is to grab the ‘leader of the opposition’ chair; mudslinging has already begun between the parties, who all claim to be working together to halt the Modi-Shah juggernaut.
