Peace and tranquility are the two most prominent forces in the Katraj Jain Temple Aagam Mandir. The temple is situated on a hillock situated between the Pune-Satara highway at Katraj in the Pune district of Maharashtra. Once you enter the temple, the fresh air can’t stop blowing through your hair. The temple is appreciated for its beauty, tranquility and its importance towards Jainism and ancient Jainism literature. Its another name ‘Aagam Mandir’ is famous among the local people.
History of this Temple
Katraj Jain Temple Aagam Mandir is not very old as it was built in the 20th century. The main temple is where the idol of Mahavira is enshrined, which is made of Panchadhatu, an alloy of five metals of sacred importance. The height of the idol is 12 feet and weighs 5 tons. All the 48 Agamas are carved in the outer sanctum of the temple.
These are open for the public to read, understand and learn from. There are other idols in the temple complex, one of them is the idol of Lord Parshvanath which is again made of the same alloy. The temple also has a dharamshala and a bhojanalaya with modern facilities.
