The Ministry of Defence has signed two contracts worth over Rs 3,700 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to enhance the Indian Air Force’s operational capabilities. The first contract worth over Rs 2,800 crore involves the supply of Medium Power Radars (MPR) ‘Arudhra’, and the second will enable the acquisition of 129 DR-118 Radar Warning Receivers (RWR) under the Buy Indian – IDMM category. These contracts are part of the Centre’s policy of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and will improve the Indian Air Force’s surveillance, detection, tracking, and electronic warfare capabilities.
Arudhra
The MPR ‘Arudhra’ is a 360-degree multi-function phased array radar developed by India’s DRDO. With advanced signal processing techniques, it can detect and track airborne and ground-based targets, operating in various modes. It has a range of up to 400 km and can detect targets at altitudes of up to 30 km.

Indian Air Force
The DR-118 Radar Warning Receiver is an EW system used by the Indian Air Force to detect and locate hostile radars, providing early warning to pilots. It uses advanced signal processing algorithms to filter out noise and interference and generates real-time information. The project is set to boost indigenous manufacturers and generate employment opportunities. Both systems enhance military capabilities, providing reliable data to support operations in challenging environments.
