Chhaya Someshwar Temple – Guide

Chhaya Someshwar Temple is a Hindu temple completely dedicated to Lord Shiva. Chhaya Someshwar Temple is located at Panapal in Nalgonda district of Telangana. One of the special features of Chhaya Someshwar temple is that there is a shadow of a pillar on the Shivling installed in the temple throughout the day, but how that shadow is formed is not known till today.

History of this Temple

Chhaya Someshwar Temple is about 800 years old. The name of this temple comes in the ancient temples of Lord Shiva. The Chhaya Someshwar Temple was built in the middle of the 11^th century by the kings of the Kundru Chola Empire. It is also believed that the it was made at the end of the 11^th century to the beginning of the 12^th century.

Pictures of the stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata have been made on all the pillars of this temple. The temple is built in a form of architecture known as Trikutalayam. These three sanctums are dedicated to Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Surya. There is a temple of Lord Surya Dev in the east and Lord Vishnu in the north.

Chhaya Someshwar Temple Timings

Chhaya Someshwar Temple opens from 6:00 AM to 01:00 PM in the morning and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 7:30 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 5:50 PM in the evening.

Spread over 40 acres of land, Bhongir Fort is situated on a huge rock. Situated at a height of about 500 feet, this fort serves to offer a spectacular view of the city. From here you can admire the historical and natural beauty of Nalgonda. This fort was built by Tribhuvanmalla Vikramaditya.

Rachakonda Fort

This fort is also in ruins like the rest of the forts here, but its strength and vastness can be felt even today. Evidence related to the past suggests that this fort might have been built around the 14^th century. This fort was built by Singma Nayaka.
