Baps Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Akshar Deri Gondal – Guide

Baps Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Akshar Deri located in Gondal are major pilgrimage sites for the Swaminarayan Sampradaya and the BAPS organization in particular. Gunatitananda Swami ended his mortal existence in 1867 at Gondal. After the cremation ceremony, Abhay Singh Darbar, a disciple of Gunitanand Swami, built a beautiful temple named Akshar Dairy at that place.

History of this Temple

In 1927, Narayan Das Swami, Mahant of Junagadh and disciple of Balamukundas Swami, expressed his desire to build a shikhara bandha temple in a dream as per the order of Gunitananda Swami. Then Narayanji Maharaj met Maharaja Bhagwatsinhji of Gondal and requested him for the land at Akshar Deri to build a BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir.

The Maharaja agreed to give the land for Rs. 25,000 with conditions that Akshar Dairy should be kept intact and within three years a three peaked temple should be constructed at a cost of ten lakhs. Then Narayanji Maharaj and Haribhai Amin met Shastriji at Sarangpur. In 1932, Shastriji Maharaj laid the foundation stone and started the excavation work for the pillars of the temple. A silver elephant with a chariot was found during the excavation, indicating that Akshar Derry will not be short of resources in the future.

Baps Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Akshar Deri Gondal opens from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. in the morning and from 4 pm to 8 pm in the evening. Mangala Aarti is performed at 6 am. Shringar Aarti is performed at 7.30 am in the morning. Rajbhog Aarti is performed at 11.15 am and Sandhya Aarti at 8.15 pm.
