Vitthal Rukmini Mandir Pandharpur – Guide

Pandharpur is a city and a famous Hindu pilgrimage centre located in Maharashtra, India. It is considered the religious and spiritual capital of the state because of the holy presence of the Vithoba Temple. This magnificent Vitthal Rukmini Mandir is the abode of Lord Pandurang, Vitthal or Pandhari, revered as the Supreme Lord of the universe.

The deities are incarnations of Lord Krishna who is Lord Vishnu in mortal form. The image of Rukmini, the wife of Lord Krishna is also present in the temple. The temple is situated on the banks of river Bhima in Solapur district and an air of reverence pervades the temple and its surroundings.

History of this Temple

It is difficult to pinpoint the exact year of construction of this holy Vitthal Rukmini Mandir. The location of the temple is in the middle of the Vitthal hill and it was reportedly a small structure during the Yadava period. It gained prominence somewhere in the middle of the 13^th century and several parts of the temple were built at different times. This aspect is very easy to understand as many parts have very different construction styles.

Vitthal Rukmini Mandir is built in the North Indian style of temple architecture that is typical of Hindu temples in the northern part of the country. Several temples in the complex were built at different times and pay tribute to the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans.

Vitthal Rukmini Mandir opens at 04:00 AM in the morning and close at 11:45 PM in the evening. Darshan Timings of this Temple is 06:00 AM to 11:00 AM,11:15 AM to 04:30 PM and 05:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
