Gun License in India Rules: In India, obtaining a gun license is a difficult process. The Arms Act of 1959 allows Indian citizens to own only NPB guns. However, if a person can demonstrate a serious threat to their life, they may be granted a gun licence. There are several steps involved in obtaining a gun licence. To begin, an application must be submitted to the district superintendent of police, either in person or online. Once received, the police check the applicant’s address and criminal history.

However, this is insufficient to demonstrate eligibility. The police investigate the applicant’s behaviour and nature from their neighbours and conduct interviews to determine whether or not the applicant has physical or mental disabilities. A legitimate reason for needing a gun, such as protection from wild animals, must also be provided by the applicant. The interview report is forwarded to the police department and the National Crime Record Bureau. The applicant will only be granted a gun licence if the DCP is satisfied with the information provided.

Gun License in India: The Process

To obtain a gun from the factory, the applicant must present the licence issued with a valid date and location, a photocopy of the gun licence, a non-objection certificate copy for the factory owner and police authorities, and a transport licence from the factory location. In India, the average wait time for a gun is two months, but it can take up to three months in some cases.

If a person wishes to sell their licenced gun, they must submit an application with a Rs 5 court stamp and notify the arms branch. Overseas Indian citizens can obtain a gun license in India if they can demonstrate that their state of residence is permanent and that they have a legitimate reason for requiring a firearm. However, obtaining a licence for an overseas citizen visiting India for a short period of time is difficult.

A gun license can be revoked or suspended if the owner of the gun violates certain statutes, fails to disclose necessary material facts, or poses a threat in public.
