Mahagathbandhan news: “Frill of Fused Bulbs” is how famous poet and former politician Kumar Vishwas refers to the political alliances being stitched in the country. Political alliances have recently emerged to contain the Modi-Shah juggernaut, ignoring everything from agendas to ideologies. However, all were forced to bite the dust. The constant failures have made the opposition surrender their arms. This was evident in the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections, where the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party made no effort.
But the man bearing his flag high against Prime Minister Narendra Modi just doesn’t want to give up; that’s Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Kumar is now busy stitching another “mahagathbandhan,” this time at the mercy of Congress.
Mahagathbandhan: Nitish Kumar petitions Congress
In the wake of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, it seems that India is all set to witness a repeat telecast of the 2019 general elections. Nitish Kumar has thus advised the grand old Congress party to not rest on its laurels and make use of the momentum gained during the “Bharat Jodo Yatra” in forging an alliance opposed to the BJP.
Kumar believes that a timely alliance could make the BJP settle for a score below 100. Kumar said, “The BJP would not be able to cross 100 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.” He was speaking at a national convention of the CPI (ML), an outside supporter of the JD(U)-RJD government in Bihar.
Congress seeks validation under the guise of opposition unity
Congress, finding “aapda mein awsar,” has agreed to Kumar’s pitch, saying that it would consider such a role. The grand old party has also said that it has already begun bringing all opposition parties to a single table through the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Senior Congress leader Salman Khursid, who was sharing the dais, signalled that the Congress is ready to work for the unity of opposition parties on a national level.

Kumar learns no lesson from the past
Nitish Kumar has been at the chief ministerial post in Bihar for almost two decades now. However, each time he takes the oath, he has a new partner, switching back and forth between the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the BJP.Kumar, in order to fulfil his PM dreams, has been meeting several opposition leaders, like AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Telangana CM KCR, among others.
Here, one thing is important: who is the leader pitching for political unity? Nitish Kumar is known for his opportunism; breaking ties for short-term gain has been his style, and any Mahagathbandhan formed will face the same fate as 2019. As voters, we don’t align with any political party or alliance to offer some interest, and here the core agenda is defeating the BJP.
