While some may criticise and others mostly praise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been successful in changing the discourse of political culture in India. It would not be an exaggeration to call him the trendsetter. His determination for work is the driving force behind his political style of working. As it is rightly said, “When the will is ready the feet are light.” Once again, his dedication towards his responsibility is evidently seen after her mother’s demise.
Heartbreak Demise of PM Modi’s Mother
On December 30, the dawn for PM Modi came with a heart-breaking news of his mother’s demise at the age of 100. She was cremated in a very simple manner at a cremation ground in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. PM Modi offered fire to his mother. He was seen consoling his brother while controlling his emotions. This is a normal funeral process which according to the Hindu tradition goes on for almost 13 days of mourning. But PM Modi is a kind of person who prioritises duty for nation over his personal happiness and griefs.
As per his office schedule, he was to visit West Bengal to inaugurate Vande Bharat Express connecting Howrah and New Jalpaiguri. Due to his mother’s death, he failed to reach West Bengal. But just few hours after the funeral, he returned to work and virtually inaugurated Vande Bharat Express along with other development projects worth Rs 7,800 crores.
Nation First
This is not the first time that he has given priority to his work and responsibility. Similar case happened when his father passed away. According to Dalip Trivedi of BJP, in 1989, when a party meeting was scheduled in Ahmedabad, his father died for which he visited Vadnagar. They thought he will not attend the meeting but he returned after performing last rights of his father. On being asked, he showed his dedication towards his work by saying that last rites had concluded and work has to go on. His dedication to work is an inspiration for the people.
Although, it is not an easy task to dedicate oneself to responsibility, but it can become easy if one realises the importance of their duty and its impact on others. In today’s world most people live for mere survival, always seeking benefit. But there are people like PM Modi who know that being a Prime Minister means following an altruist way of working. People in democracy choose their representative because of a large population and inability to take part in political and administrative activities on day-to-day basis. Hence it becomes the responsibility of representatives to prioritise the work for people.
But more often than not, it is seen that the representatives end up prioritising themselves and their families and accumulating wealth. But being aware of people’s aspiration, PM Modi is working day and night for the betterment of the people. It is a well-known fact that he left his home and family for serving the nation. After being in power for almost 25 years his family members still live in a simple way. During his mother’s funeral too, there were no special arrangements made. He himself walked barefoot and performed last rites in a simple way. On his loss, the leaders from across the nation and the world paid their condolences. Even his staunch critic and rival politicians were seen saying “your mother is our mother”.
This was simply because both of his tenure was perceived by the citizens as one of the best governments of all time. His life has been the exact manifestation of Indian culture and traditions.
PM Exemplifies Indian Culture
In Indian culture it is believed that mother and motherland hold a place greater than heaven. This can be understood as the way to heaven lies in serving mother and motherland. However, this does not mean that the tradition of mourning and paying respect to the deceased should not be followed. Instead, the point here is that every person has a responsibility towards the society to which one should give priority. And PM Modi is the perfect example of that who is becoming the synonymous to “Janani Janmbhumisch Swargadapi Gariyasi”.
