Bloody Irony! Man convicted for family dispute to be the health and family welfare minister of Punjab

The Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, led by comedian-turned-politician Bagwant Maan, has once again done something unattainable, ill-advised and humorous. This time, they have inducted a person into their Cabinet as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, who is currently out on bail. This individual was convicted for an assault case against his sister-in-law eight months ago and was sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment.

The appointment of this individual to the position of Head of Health & Family Welfare has provoked considerable debate and moral scrutiny.

A fresh addition to the lengthy roster

Out of 92 MLAs from AAP Punjab, approximately 56 have criminal charges pending against them. Now, Dr Balbir Singh as the new minister in Punjab will be an add to the list, even in this case Dr. Singh is out on bail as he was serving his sentence previously.

The 62-year-old minister Fauja Singh Sarari recently found himself subjected to intense scrutiny in the aftermath of an audio clip that circulated on social media. The clip reportedly included a conversation between him and a close associate where they discussed a plan to “trap” certain contractors with the help of government officials and potentially extort money from them.

However, AAP chief spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang said that Sarari resigned due to personal reasons.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s induction of Balbir Singh into the Cabinet to replace Fauja Sarari has raised quite a few eyebrows. Despite the gravity of the situation, many times AAP has argued that the person is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. But in this case the person was proven guilty by the high court. But they have still accepted him as a Cabinet member and this makes AAP a political party only with lies and corruption .

During the elections, Paramjit Kaur, Balbir Singh’s sister-in-law, raised an accusation that Balbir Singh had unlawfully taken possession of her land. Additionally, she also challenged his nomination stating that he had concealed in his affidavit the charge under IPC section 325.

Balbir Singh is currently involved in another cheating case connected to a land dispute, wherein he has been accused of forging documents and his father-in-law’s will. The case is still being heard in court.

Long list of crime, corruption and lies

While Amanatullah Khan is out on bail, Tahir Hussian is currently serving his sentence and Satyendra Jain is taking his sentence in style who has expressed his intention to seek retribution against the officers of Tihar Jail when he is out.

Despite the long list of unfulfilled promises and betrayals, Arvind Kejriwal continues to advocate for his “Delhi Model” of governance to other states. In Punjab, his ideas was warmly received and he was granted a full majority. Since then, Punjab has been in political turmoil.

However, many of the promises he made during his election campaign in Delhi, such as the Jan Lokpal bill, Swaraj bill, corruption free politics, goal of making Delhi a SolarCity and many more remain unfulfilled. The Aam Aadmi Party should be cognizant of the fact that their decision has serious implications on the public’s perception of their conduct and ethics.
