Skandagiri Temple, Chikkaballapura
Skandagiri, part of the five major hills found in the Chikkaballapura district of Karnataka, is frequented by tourists for the excellent trekking possibilities it offers. From the top of the hill, the spectacular views and scenic views of the surrounding hills make the journey worthwhile. Skandagiri Temple is also a site of historical importance, as on top of the Skandagiri hill, you will find the ruins of an 18th-century fort, which was used by Tipu Sultan to fight against the British. This place is also known as Kalavara Durga and is located at a distance of about 60 km from Bangalore.
History of this Temple
This attraction has a glorious past; It hosts the ruins of a fort, which has a special place in the history of Karnataka. The great Tipu Sultan used this fort to fight against the British. However, the rulers of the Kingdom of Mysore lost their rebellion against the British, who conquered and destroyed the fort in 1791 AC.

Best time to visit this Temple
The best time to visit Skandagiri is between April to June and November to March. During this time, the weather is quite pleasant and the atmosphere turns into a beautiful display of ambient colours. From July to October, the hilltop has a rainy season, which should be avoided when traveling to Skandagiri

This temple of Goddess Parvati and many local deities is one of the most amazing attractions of Skandagiri. It has a strong and captivating aura that mesmerizes everyone. Devotees can feel intense spiritual vibrations as soon as they enter the temple. This is the starting point for the trek and almost all trekkers pay their respects and seek blessings at the temple before starting the climb.

Shiva Temple
The ancient temple is situated on the top of Skandagiri hill and is known for its rustic design. After reaching the top of the hill, devotees come to the temple and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.
Tipu Sultan Fort
The fort was used as a stronghold by Tipu Sultan in his rebellion against the British rule. Though a major part of the fort has been damaged, the beauty of its ruins attracts many tourists. Some of the walls are still standing strong and give an idea about the structure of the fort. It has two caves, one at the bottom and the other in the middle. There is a stone house structure at the top where trekkers can rest.

How to reach Skandagiri Temple
The nearest airport to Skandagiri is located in Bangalore. The hill town is situated at a distance of about 60 km from Bangalore. You can also take a bus operated by KSRTC, which runs at regular intervals between the two destinations. The bus drops passengers at Chikballapur, which is the last stop on the route. From that point, you can either take a leisurely walk to reach Skandagiri or hire an auto to drop you at the foot of the hills, 15 minutes away from the stop. While walking may take you 45 minutes.
