India, a country of hope and immense possibilities is again facing challenges. But this time it is not from any outsider. Infosys founder, Narayan Murthy, who owes his sparkling beginning to India, is at the centre of the debate. The self-proclaimed ‘confused leftist’ turned ‘compassionate capitalist’, made a defamatory remark while interacting with the young minds. Looks like the closet communist is coming outside.
Speaking of reality, serving a myth
On Sunday, Narayan Murthy addressed students of GMR Institute of Technology (GMRIT) in Vizianagaram district, on its Silver Jubilee Year celebrations. According to the reports, he said that “In India, reality means corruption, dirty roads, pollution and many times no power. However, reality in Singapore means clean road, no pollution and lots of power. Therefore, it is your responsibility to create that new reality.”
He further advised students to “become an entrepreneur whenever possible and create more jobs. As creation of more jobs is the only solution to remove poverty and help the less privileged.”
Although there were times when, he was one of the supporters of government. It looks like his vested interests are not getting fulfilled in new India.

The Indian Reality
Talking about corruption, the Indian government has taken major steps that comprise of a long list of reforms. Schemes and policies have been implemented holistically throughout the nation. These reforms are acknowledged not only in India but abroad too. As an eye opener for Narayan Murthy, let us understand some steps taken.
Indian government, under the ‘Jan Dhan Yojna’, opened millions of banks account increasing liquidity in the market. It also paved the way for digitisation of the banking system, which helped to incorporate corruption reducing schemes like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Tenders were one of the prime reasons for prolonged corruption which was hit hard by the introduction of e-tenders. Addressing grievances and governing a populous country like India is a challenge in itself. Left unnoticed, it alleviated corruption. But the government holistically changed the governance model by introducing e-governance.
Apart from that, in pursuance of its ‘Zero Tolerance Against Corruption’ policy, the government introduced Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015.
Seeking the guidance of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian government introduced ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ which worked efficiently for cleanliness. It is the first time that cleanliness has been the agenda for every stratum of the government.
Developing road infrastructure is one of the fastest in India, which does not need any proof. Policies like ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ are followed at ministry and departmental level to enforce sanitation. Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways is no exception to that. According to the Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways (MoRTH), there are 599 National Highways in India stretching for more than 1,32,500 kilometres. This vast network is witnessing the revolutionary upgradation in sanitisation.
While showcasing his leftist attribute, Narayan Murthy criticises power supply and pollution in India. But as per the Ministry of Power report, 160.8 GW of power generating capacity has been added with about half of which is clean one. He must not have gone through the ‘panchamrit’ of COP 27 which calls for net-zero emission by 2070.
Narayan Murthy’s Reality
While pitching for creating jobs to remove poverty, Narayan Murthy must have forgotten his company’s stand. Just last year, Infosys increased their recruitment of Americans instead of Indian jobseekers. This happens to be the case resulting in many of them getting paid for doing nothing. It does not look like his company is seriously striving for poverty eradication.
Narayan Murthy, instead of showing gratitude, humiliates the nation. He wants to earn from Indians but not serve them, just like his western masters. What he said shows that his knowledge of the New India is extremely vague. It is high time for him to visit reformed India like a common man and not like a high class celebrity roaming around in private jets without any knowledge of ground reality.
