Nitish congratulates Ishan Kishan for ODI double century
After scoring a ODI double century, Ishan Kishan received several well wishes and congratulations on Twitter. One of the well-wishers was Nitish Kumar, the Chief minister of Bihar. In his tweet he is seen congratulating a boy from Bihari who made it big in the match against Bangladesh. Through this tweet Nitish indirectly insinuated that the state of Bihar holds a share in his achievement.

However, people did not respond positively to the Bihar Chief Minister’s post. Netizens started questioning Nitish Kumar about what he contributed to Ishan Kishan’s career.

Land of boundless potential
Indeed, netizens were not wrong in questioning the numero uno leader of Bihar. Bihar has been home to many talented individuals. But it is often seen that those talented people have to leave the state to reach up to their full potential. It is the result of political interference in every domain, including cricket.
In the 90s, cricket experienced a surge in popularity across the nation. To cultivate the talent of young players, many states invested in the infrastructure and facilities necessary to support them. Unfortunately, Bihar did not see such investment and it is still paying for that fatal blunder. Bihar’s politicians failed to take advantage of this opportunity to improve the future of the state and the youngsters.
Bihar had an affiliated Ranji team from 1936 to 2004. But after the bifurcation of Bihar into Bihar and Jharkhand, the state’s cricket was being handled by Lalu Yadav and due to inconstancy to lead Bihar he handled the future of Bihar to Cricket Association (BCA). However, Jagmohan Dalmiya, BCCI president, refused to provide legitimacy to the Lalu led Association. Under the leadership of Lalu Yadav, the future of cricket in Bihar became uncertain.
Even after a change of regime, during Nitish Kumar’s leadership, the situation remained unchanged. Nitish was unable to resolve the internal issues within the cricketing board.
In a way, president of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association, Amitabh Choudhary should be commended for his efforts to ensure that cricketers from Bihar were included in the Jharkhand state cricket teams. He has made a significant contribution to the development of cricket in the region by enabling players from both states to be part of the same team.
Consequently, players like MS Dhoni, Ishan Kishan, Saurav Tiwari and many others have made a name for themselves in the world of cricket, representing themselves from the neighbouring states like West Bengal and Jharkhand.

Best state and Worst politicians
The Nitish-Lalu partnership has gained immense popularity in Bihar due to their longstanding presence in the state’s political landscape. Throughout their tenure, they have been instrumental in shaping the course of Bihar’s politics. Unfortunately, their rule has not been beneficial for the state’s overall development.
Under the leadership of Lalu Yadav, Bihar was sadly known for its prevalence of guns, violence, corruption and lack of development.
Even now, under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, there has not been much change in terms of development. If they both had invested more in the betterment of the state, the current condition of Bihar would have been vastly different and people would not have to move out for better opportunities.During his tenure, Lalu Yadav was working diligently to ensure his sons had successful careers.
Politicians should work selflessly as they have the responsibility to foster an atmosphere that encourages and nurtures the growth and development of the next generation of the state. So that the talents can be harnessed and fully optimised and their skills can be used to build a strong and prosperous future.
Players like Ishan Kishan and Dhoni with such great potential sadly had no opportunity to play in their home state. And this not because is because they have the skills and talent, but they have not been given the chance to showcase their abilities due to lack of resources and support from the state’s sports administration.
