Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple- Overview
The Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple is surrounded by verdant greenery in the Tumkur district of Karnataka. The main deity of this temple is goddess Lakshmi known for prosperity and wealth, other deities are goddess Marikamba, Manchala Nagappa.
Thetha reservoir is near the temple. People visiting the temple also visit the reservoir. It is built across the Suvarnamukhi River, which is one of the good attractions of Goravanahalli.
History of this Temple
The history of the Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple is that a poor man Abhayya is blessed with a magnificent idol of Goddess Lakshmi. After the puja, he became rich and started doing charity work in his house called “Lakshmi Niwas”.
Later after the death of Abhayya, Thodappa, his brother started worshiping for Goddess Lakshmi. He was told in a dream by Goddess Lakshmi to build a temple for him. Therefore, Thodappa built a temple for Goddess Lakshmi. Later Chowdayya started worshiping but from the year 1910 the temple was in a neglected state. In 1925, Kamalamma saw the temple in a neglected state and started worshipping.
Again, after a year, it was still in a neglected state later it was shifted to Goravanahalli. After coming to the temple from the mouth of these people, Tuesday and Friday are auspicious days for worship.

Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple Timings
This temple opens from 6:00 am to 12:30 pm in the morning and from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the evening.

Devnarayandurg Fort
The fort was built in the 17th century by Chikka Devaraja Wadiyar, the 14th king of the Wadiyar dynasty of Mysore. The fort was also named Devnarayandurg, which means “Devraj’s fort”.
There are no food stalls along the way, so carry enough food and water. You can also pre-plan your visit to the fort to catch the setting sun. Apart from this, there are many things to do in Tumkur that you can enjoy with your loved ones.

Namda chilume
Namda Chillum is considered to be the starting point of the famous Jayamangali River. It is a perennial natural spring which has rich historical significance. It pours out of a large hole in a dark desolate rock.
According to legend, Lord Rama, on his journey to Lanka to rescue Sita, rested for a night near Namda Chilume. The next morning, when he wanted to apply vermilion to his forehead, he shot an arrow into a rock, and a spring erupted.
Devanarayandurg State Forest
Devanarayandurg State Forest is at such a height that you can buy lots of woollen clothes. This is a forest spread over forty-two square kms. Since 1853 this forest has been protected by Karnataka State. The highest point is at 3,940 feet. The forest is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, including langurs, chitals, wild boars, leopards and tigers. Tigers are usually elusive.

By Air- The nearest airport to Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple is Bangalore International Airport which is is 77 km from this temple. There are regular flights to Bangalore airport from all metro cities of India. You can book or hire any type of transport from outside the airport to reach the temple.
By Train- The Nearest Railway Station to Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple is Tumkur Railway Station which is located at a distance of about 32 Kms from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by hire any type of transport from outside the temple.
By Road- There are regular buses by KSRTC and private buses between Bangalore and Goravanahalli are run to reach this temple. You can also easily reach this temple by own vehicle as its roads are well connected to the different parts of the country.
