JSCA international stadium – Overview

Jharkhand States Cricket Association International Cricket Stadium, also known as JSCA International Stadium Complex, is located in the eastern city of Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.

It serves the Jharkhand State Cricket Association for organizing international matches in Jharkhand and is the home ground of the Jharkhand cricket team and Indian Premier League team Chennai Super Kings. IPL team Chennai Super Kings have two home matches at the JSCA Stadium. It was inaugurated in January 2013. As of 19 October 2019, it has hosted 2 Tests, 5 ODIs and 2 T20Is. Its capacity is 50,000.

JSCA’s decision to build a new cricket stadium in Ranchi stemmed from a dispute with Tata Steel, regarding the allocation of international matches and holding matches at the Keenan Stadium. The conflict came after an international match between India and England was moved to Bangalore, with the JSCA saying they had received no response from Tata Steel. After this, the JSCA decided that a new stadium was needed. JSCA international stadium complex has been constructed by M/s Ram Kripal Singh Construction Private Limited, Ranchi, Jharkhand.

At that time Jharkhand State Cricket Association is a full member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it organizes international matches in the state, but the JSCA does not have any international cricket stadiums, only Keenan Stadium, Jamshedpur which is owned by Tata Steel. Main Stadium

This stadium is built in the premises of the public sector company HEC (Heavy Engineering Corporation). This stadium is the home ground of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former captain of the Indian cricket team. The stadium is constructed in such a way that no shadow falls on any of the nine pitches before 4.45 pm even on the shortest day of the year. Another ground is also in the complex which has five pitches.

There is a practice field with eight pitches. The stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 40,000 and 76 corporate boxes. Visitors can also enjoy views of the two hills to the east and west, called the East and West Hills. It is the only stadium in the country which has hills on both sides.

The two pavilions, North and South, are fully air-conditioned, each with five tiers comprising VIP areas, members’ enclosure, donors’ enclosure, chairman’s box, BCCI box and two large dressing rooms with separate dining space for players Room included.

Membrane roofs provide shade from the sun. The stadium also has an indoor cricket center with three indoor pitches along with a residential complex where players can stay for training.

In November 2015, the stadium was chosen as one of six new Test venues in India, along with Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Holkar Stadium, Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium and Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.

How to Reach JSCA international stadium complex

This stadium is built within the city range of “Ranchi”. It is only 10 minutes away from Ranchi famous “Birsa Munda Airport” and 25 minutes’ drive from five-star hotel “Hotel Radisson Blu”. It is well connected by four lane road of the city. It is also well connected to Ranchi Junction and Hatia railway stations.
