Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium overview
Indira Gandhi Maidan or officially Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium located in Indraprastha Estate in the eastern sector of New Delhi. Formerly this stadium is known as Indraprastha Stadium. It is the largest indoor sports stadium in India and the third largest in Asia. This is the multi-purpose stadium which is used by the tennis club Indian Aces.
Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium History
Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium is built by the Government of India in the year 1982 to host the indoor sporting events at the 1982 Asian Games. The arena of this stadium covers an area of 102 acres. Since its construction, this stadium has also hosted several other tournaments.
Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium facilitates capacity of 14,348 people and is named after former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi. The venue also hosts many political events, concerts and sporting events such as tennis and kabaddi.
Since its inauguration, the stadium has been repeatedly renovated and modernized. The arena underwent a further renovation for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, and equipped with soundproof synthetic walls, lighting and audio systems.
At a cost of Rs. 240 crores it was renovated for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. A new air-conditioned velodrome has also been built at a cost of ₹150 crore. Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium hosted matches of the first International Premier Tennis League tournament which is played from 6 December 2014 to 8 December 2014. Tennis Club Indian Aces is the tenant.

- The Indira Gandhi Indoor Cycling Velodrome is a 3,800-seater velodrome that hosted the track cycling events of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
- It has also the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall which have a capacity of 6000 people in indoor stadium.
- This Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium had hosted wrestling events for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Three months later without an official name, it was named after Indian wrestler KD Jadhav, who won a bronze medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics.
