And it’s that time of the year again when schools have been shut and offices are forced to go back into COVID-19 working mode. Most of the employees have been asked to Work From Home. The reason is pollution. This decision has been taken due to abnormally high levels of air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region. The AQI is 529 in Noida, 478 in Gurugram, 446 in Ghaziabad and 463 in Faridabad (Haryana).
As we breathe in the gas chamber once again, with air quality in the severe category, the necessary intervention of the court has been brought by Advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha. Mr. Jha has filed a PIL in his personal capacity. He stated that the pollution situation has worsened due to stubble burning in the neighbouring state of Punjab.
A bench comprising Chief Justice UU Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi took note of the submissions of the lawyer. The petition that seeks urgent intervention to check the worsening air quality in the capital will be heard on November 10. While speaking to TFIPOST Law, the lawyer pointed out how the case of stubble burning has gone down in Haryana whereas in Punjab it is on the rise. The advocate emphasises that the culprits here are not the farmers but the people in power who keep playing the blame game instead of resolving the crisis.
