The entire foundation of the negativity-driven Dravidian movement started by the rabid Hindu hater Perriyar is based on hatred for Hindi, Sanskrit, Vedas and anything that was related to Sanatan Dharm. Since its foundation, hatred against Hindi language and Hindu religion has been the first, last and the only resort or line of defence for Dravidian politicians. To curb and fend off any brewing criticism, opposition and their failure they rekindle the needless bogey of Hindi Imposition.
Now it seems that with the reformist politics started by PM Narendra Modi, this divisive politics has entered into its last phase. Henceforth, the dravidian parties have now come out open to infuse everything they have at their command to keep the facade of Hindi Imposition alive and continue enjoying the fruits of politics of hatred, linguistic and regional chauvinism.
The bogey of Hindi Imposition claims life of an innocent
The recently concluded Kashi-Tamil Sangam in Varanasi has set the ball rolling. It has started to adversely affect the divisive politics of linguistic and regional chauvinism repeatedly touted by the Dravidian parties.
With their back to the wall, the Dravidian parties are playing with the life of innocent and misinformed individuals to cruelly drag the bogey of Hindi Imposition and so-called trampling of Dravidian languages including Tamil.
Unfortunately, in the negative campaign to reignite the farce and fade the strong buzz for the unifying cultural event, misguided DMK workers have started to adopt reprehensible tactics of blackmail politics and not putting great value to one’s life and trust in the systems of democracy.
Evidently, falling prey to this negative campaign of Hindi imposition, an 85-year-old DMK worker Thangavel committed suicide by immolating himself. Reportedly, he wrote a suicide letter accusing the Central government of forcefully imposing Hindi.
In his letter, he wrote, “there is no need for imposing Hindi when the Tamil language is here.”
By using the unfortunate and condemnable incident, the DMK party desperately tried to safeguard its vested political interests.
Sangam the Way forward to end politics of Dravidian Parties
In the absence of credible and rational politics, the Dravidian parties wrote their success by infusing hatred against Hindi and the style of doing politics in the North. With this, they successfully shared power among themselves without offering anything in the name of development politics.
But now, with the advent of social media, credible opposition gaining public support and the relentless push towards unifying politics by the Modi government, voters have started to see through the facade of Hindi Imposition and so-called trampling of Dravidian languages.

With the month-long Sangam (confluence) of Kashi and Tamil cultures, PM Narendra Modi put his political weight behind the promotion of Tamil in other states including the most populous state, Uttar Pradesh. He also stressed that every citizen should cherish Indic languages including Tamil. Further, he added that efforts should be made to preserve our languages and it is the duty of every citizen to break language and other barriers.
Apart from other inclusive steps and reformist policies by the Modi government, the Kashi-Tamil Sangam has been the single largest act that has thoroughly exposed the shallowness of the arguments (cacophony) repeated round the clock by the Dravidian parties. Contrary to the portrayal by these Dravidian parties, PM Modi eloquently spoke in favour of promoting Tamil and that too while being in the ‘Hindi belt’.
Seeing the momentum gaining in support of the Kashi-Tamil Sangam and credible voices demanding more such events in future to iron out the misconceptions, the so-called conflict of North-South or the mistaken belief of hatred for each other, the Dravidian parties have pulled out its usual rhetoric of Hindi Imposition and step-fatherly treatment by the Central government and is ready to use the unfortunate death of its misguided worker who took unfortunate step by falling prey to the facade of Hindi imposition.
It is to be said that Dravidian Politicians are a rare breed of individuals who end up cheating the communities they claim to represent. Rather than lending their support to unifying events like Kashi-Tamil Sangam and promoting Tamil, the Dravidian parties are resorting to hollow, rhetorical and destructive politics. By making anti-Hindi statements or acts and rhetorical statements on Tamil, the Dravidian parties have exposed that they are in only for virtual signalling and have done nothing substantiate to promote the rich culture and heritage of Tamil.
