Drishyam 2 box office collection: There is no hiding the fact that Bollywood is going through its toughest time. Save a few films, nothing seems to click. Barring a few films, virtually every movie released this year has struggled to recover its investment. But at the same time, we as Cinema lovers must not be mistaken to judge the vast industry with the narrow parameter of one-size-fits-all.
Apparently, among the bad apples and agenda driven industry, there are many talented actors like Ajay Devgn who have single-handedly saved the industry. With their talent, they have been regularly rekindling new energy in what is otherwise a dying industry.
Drishyam 2 ends the dry spell of Bollywood
Released on 18th of November, Ajay Devgn starrer Drishyam 2 is fast riding the success horse. The suspense thriller movie is marching closer to an inevitable Blockbuster mark. Made with the budget of Rs 50 crore, Drishyam 2 has clocked a business of around Rs 144 crore within India and box office collection of Drishyam 2 has breached the much talked about mark of Rs 200 crores globally.
#Drishyam2 continues its DREAM RUN… Biz on [second] Sat and Sun is 🔥🔥🔥… Difficult to guesstimate *lifetime biz* since it refuses to slow down… SUPER-HIT, heading towards BLOCKBUSTER tag… [Week 2] Fri 7.87 cr, Sat 14.05 cr, Sun 17.32 cr. Total: ₹ 143.90 cr. #India biz. pic.twitter.com/Qg0oNrFQqG

This has been possible because Ajay Devgn has been making sure that he doesn’t get type-casted in any specific genre. He has proven his versatility in Humorous as well as serious roles. In series like Golmaal and Total Dhamaal, he has shown his comic timing. Whereas, in movies like Raid and Drishyam 2 he has maintained a Poker face throughout the movie doing absolute justice with the roles.
With his experimentation he has been successful in offering the much-needed fresh content. It will be an absolute disservice to his acting skills and his fans, if we miss out his unparalleled ability to communicate through facial expressions and let his eyes do all the talking.

A bump in the road
Before moving ahead, let’s talk about the elephant in the room, that is, the movie is a remake. The argument of remakes to trivialise the success of Drishyam 2 doesn’t hold ground because Bollywood has made way more remakes than it has given originals in the past few years. So, if making a remake of a successful masterpiece would have been the Vijay Mantra then Aamir Khan would have been the most successful actor this year.
To put it simply, remakes should be made only to better the original masterpiece or shouldn’t be touched at all. Apparently, this is what Ajay Devgn has demonstrated with Drishyam 2 box office collection.
And yes, Ajay Devgn-starrer Runway-34 and Thank God failed miserably at the box office. To be honest Runway-34 was caught in bad weather. The experimentation couldn’t click among the masses and the turbulent ride crashed at the box office. Thank God had itself to blame for its doom.

Most number of Hits by an actor in last five years
Now let’s talk some numbers as opinions are subjective but the validation of the public is the best way to judge the success or failure of any star.
In the past five years or so, Ajay Devgn has not only done a great business at the box office but also given many so-called superstars a run for their money.
Since 2017, Ajay Devgn appeared in 14 films as a lead or in a cameo. 10 out of these 14 films were a hit and crossed the Rs 100 crore mark. Keeping aside the OTT release of Bhuj, only two out of 14 films have flopped at the big screen.
In comparison, only five films of Salman Khan and seven films of Akshay Kumar managed to touch the touted figure of Rs 100 crore in the last 5 years.
S.No. | Movie Name | Budget | Collection |
1 | Suryavanshi | Rs 160 crores | Rs 295 crores |
2 | RRR | Rs 550 crores | Rs 1200+ crores |
3 | Baadshaho | Rs 90 crores | Rs 125 crores |
4 | Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior | Rs 125 crores | Rs 367 crores |
5 | Gangubai Kathiawadi | Rs 140 crores approx. | Rs 209 crores |
6 | Golmaal Again | Rs 72 crores | Rs 311 crores |

With these 10 hit films in five years, Ajay Devgn alone can shout at the top of his voice that he is the Singham of Box office.
