Although nostalgia is a communists’ trade, none can claim to be above that. Nostalgia hits us every now and then. It doesn’t matter to us a lot how the thing we are being nostalgic about has changed or evolved. All we can remember is the older version with which our emotions are attached. However, sometimes it becomes necessary to look at things practically and that is the case with Disney, a channel which holds the most beautiful memories at our cores.
The inception of the phenomenon called ‘DISNEY’
How many of the generation would have no trace of Mickey Mouse? None can claim that they have not fought with siblings or their parents just to have some glimpses of Mickey Mouse and other animated cartoon shows that were telecasted on Disney.
The Walt Disney Company, that can be called as the best-known purveyor of family entertainment, was established by Walter Elias Disney. As we know an organisation is an extension of the founder’s personality, to trace the journey of Disney, it is necessary to have a look at the uphill journey of Walter Disney himself.
Organisation- An extension of founder’s personality
Walter was born as the fourth son to Elias Disney, a peripatetic carpenter, farmer and mother Flora Call, who was a school teacher. Walter’s father had very soon abandoned his efforts at farming and had moved to Missouri with the family. There he had bought a morning newspaper route. He compelled his sons to assist him in delivering papers. Walter believes that it was the discipline and hardships of younger days that led him to success. In Missouri, Walter began to study cartooning. However, his formative years were spent at McKinley High School, after the family had moved back to Chicago.

Walter officially entered in the world of cartooning and animation along with Ub Iwerks in 1922 when they both started a small studio and acquired a second-hand movie camera with which they made 1–2-minute animated advertising films for distribution to local movie theatres. They did Alice in Cartoon land and that is what paved their way further.
The journey upwards and onwards
With the success of Alice, Walter and his brother Roy reopened their shop in Hollywood. After Alice, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit arrived and then the cheerful, energetic and mischievous Mickey Mouse was created. The growing popularity of Mickey Mouse and his girlfriend, Minnie attested to the public’s taste for the fantasy of little creatures with the speech, skills, and personality traits of human beings. And this led to the invention of other animal characters, such as Donald Duck and the dogs Pluto and Goofy. Then arrived the iconic The Three Little Pigs. Colour was introduced in the cartoon and slowly the length increased, which was visible in the classic Snow White and the Seven dwarfs.
Everything that we have ever watched on our TV and has stayed with us, be it Pinocchio or Cinderella were all crafted by Disney. Disney can be credited to be the first to foresee the potential of television as a popular entertainment medium and to produce programs directly for it. This can be the probable reason why Disney went on to rule the Television screens even in the 21st century. However, that is no longer the case.
The downfall of Disney
The company that was founded by Walter Disney has with time became one of the world’s largest entertainment conglomerates, with notable holdings as ABC, ESPN, Pixar, Marvel Entertainment, Fox among others. However, Disney today does not remain the kids’ favourite only. Rather, it has become the favourites of Wokes, attributing to its downfall.
Veering off the slope of rationality and common sense and diving straight into the left cesspool of woke ideas. From appeasing China to going woke, Disney has accomplished all that was unthinkable.
After making movies near the concentration camps housing Uyghur Muslims who are being exterminated in conditions much gruesome that Hilter’s Holocaust is now preaching to the world about inclusivity and free will. While it continues to sell its movies with the Prince and Princess tag, publicised to drop the mention of ‘girl’ and ‘boy’ to go gender neutral. Disney had also protested against the Florida Bill, once again an example of revolution without a cause.
The path that Disney has adopted now has already done more damage than good. Today, 16 October is the day when Disney was established in California. On this day, we have a message for Disney that, if it wishes to maintain its legacy, it should shed its woke agenda and start respecting its basics.
