Arvind Kejriwal, your antics won’t land you a job even at Canvas Laugh Club

Kejriwal Delhi LG

Kejriwal and Delhi LG controversy: Political discourse is fast degrading in the country. Earlier political parties used to maintain public decorum and civility while taking a principled opposition to any move by the ruling dispensation. Sadly, off late, principled opposition and co-operative as well as competitive federalism have been trampled by destructive and confrontational politics. The new political entrant, Aam Aadmi Party which entered on the promise of changing the style of politics is often blamed for tarnishing the discourse of politics. Its party Supremo Arvind Kejriwal has time and again been dragged to the courts for making alleged derogatory statements about his ideological rivals and naysayers.

The continuing tussle with Lieutenant Governor

AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal is infamous for indulging in blame game, regularly playing victim card, passing the responsibilities and duties to the Central government and accusing all its ideological opponents and critics. Moreover, with all these unfounded allegations and filthy language, the party sets the bar to a new low. Its desperation started hitting the ceiling when it got a tight slap from the Delhi High Court. The Honourable Court foiled its malicious smear campaign against Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. The court directed the party to take down all the alleged defamatory posts against LG VK Saxena.

Recently, the Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal made a deranged tweet demeaning the refuted offices of state LG and CM. Stooping to the level of Page 3 gossiper, Kejriwal expressed his no love lost with the Delhi LG. Undignified with the post, Delhi CM Kejriwal tried to make fun of the indifference of opinions. He compared it to the stereotypical jokes on wife.

It is not the first time that Delhi LG has taken the bar to such a low level or has used filthy language for persons sitting in reputed positions. In fact, the party came to political prominence by attacking all the established politicians of the day. Its leaders have been accused of being a habitual offender in crossing the red lines of public decorum, parliamentary language and civility towards others. At one such incident, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal disrespected the Police personnel to gain few moments of pleasure. Later he had to apologise for calling Police personnel as “THULLA”. He was dragged to the court for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the Police force. He somehow got away from the legal proceedings in that case.

He had been accused on multiple occasions for using derogatory language for PM Modi and other post holders. However, in all these cases he has been lucky that courts have been lenient while deciding the case.

History of tussles with Lieutenant Governors

The Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal started ugly tussle with Delhi LG when he took office for the second time in 2015. Najeeb Jung was entrusted with the duty of Delhi LG back then. Both the offices of state CM and LG were engaged in tussle over jurisdictions, rules of procedures and controversies that followed with every statement of that time.

Accusations and counter accusations flew thick and fast. In 2016, Najeeb Jung resigned from his post but the tussle continued. In 2018, AAP escalated the tussle and held a week-long dharna outside Delhi LG Anil Baijal’s office.

In between those times, the tussle continued in the courts, state assembly and Parliament. In all those controversies, Centre and Courts reminded the Delhi government about the special status Delhi enjoys and that Delhi is a half state.

In 2021, the Union government amended the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021. The Amendment mentioned that the term “government” referred to in any law made by the Legislative Assembly will imply Lieutenant Governor (LG). The Act provided a framework for the functioning of the Legislative Assembly and the government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. The Bill also amended several powers and responsibilities of the Legislative Assembly and the Lieutenant Governor.

However, the politics of AAP has been dwindling since the appointment of Vinai Kumar Saxena as the Delhi Lieutenant Governor. He has given nod to various probes against the alleged scams of the Delhi government. It has led to various raids, arrests and seizures of incriminating documents about the alleged scams like liquor scam, bus transport scam and personal illicit acts of state governments ministers. The Delhi government is now getting jittery and its nervousness is visible in deranged tweets of state CM that bring disrepute to the posts as well as bring down the level of political discourse in the country.
