BBC 100 years: In the institutions of mass communications and journalism, ‘Agenda Setting Theory’ is taught as part of the syllabus. In the college itself, the budding journalists are taught that their coverage of any story holds utmost importance. As they are going to be the ones upon whose shoulders the responsibility of forming narratives will lay.
It is a naked truth that the media filters and shapes what we see rather than reflecting stories to the audience. Hence there is nothing called reporting the story. Here comes the agenda setting theory. How news has been covered determines which issue will find more space in the public discussion, thus determining the public agenda. The media doesn’t tell you how to think. It just makes you aware about the development. It also directs what to think. And the BBC is no different.
How was the BBC born?
A century ago, today, 18 October 1922, (BBC 100 years) a group of idealistic radio pioneers launched one of Britain’s most famous institutions – the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). 100 years ago BBC was established as a private corporation, whose revenue came from half of the 10-shilling licence fee for receivers and a 10 per cent royalty on the sake of receiving sets and equipment.
BBC very soon developed its monopoly. However, just 5 years after its inception, the British Broadcasting Corporation was liquidated and replaced by a public corporation. This institutional connection with the power bloc has paved the way for BBC to expand its footprints all across the world.

In the current scenario, the BBC has found a lot of alternate sources of funding. However, it still relies on the British government for a large part of its funding. That is the reason why BBC has been shoving pro-Britain propaganda down the readers’ throat.
BBC’s stint with journalism
Journalism is a field that must be driven by truth and ethics, sadly that is not the reality. And when it comes to BBC, it is the flagbearer among the ones propagating their agendas. While many from the left-liberal cabal may prostate at the feet of BBC, it has lost its credibility with time. In today’s time BBC is often discarded as the propaganda emitter of London.
BBC is guilty of taking an anti-India stand in general and anti-Hindu stand in particular. It has always shamelessly spread misinformation to paint an entire community with one hue. BBC leaves no stone unturned in painting the Indian government as ‘fascist’. There are many recent cases that can be traced to substantiate the same.
Recently, out of its disgust towards Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’, BBC handpicked a few ‘Pandits’ settled in Jammu who harboured a critical view of the film. This was a shameless attempt to bring down film’s popularity by showing that Kashmiri Hindus are themselves against the film. Thus pushing the narrative that the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits never happened. And, if did so in a small amount, it should not be talked about. The ‘Pandits’ were later found to have allegiance with the Congress party.

In another incident, while reporting regarding the Lakhimpur Kheri case, the BBC had crossed all limit of shamelessness. Instead of naming the culprits arrested by the police, the BBC attempted to malign the Hindu community, who were the victims.
The BBC peddled a caste angle into the story and said that the girls were targeted as they were Dalits and blamed the entire incident on the existence of Hindu hierarchy. And this is not all, the Hinduphobic and anti-India reports of BBC will take forever to write.
BBC is nearing its end
The BBC can be termed as the modern ‘East India Company’, which has always been a colonial mindset driven organisation, doing propaganda for the British crown in the name of journalism. It sees the world through its nefarious colonial mindset driven lens that has yet not allowed it to mark India’s growing economic might.
Recently, the BBC had decided to lay off 382 employees from across the world so as to save some pounds for drowning Europe. Also, due to the same reason the BBC has begun shutting down their world radio services in 10 languages including Hindi, Bengali and Tamil. The propaganda emitter is in such a state that it had discontinue its services and it sees no chance of survival.
