In Politics, even a minor event can have long term repercussions. The political developments and murmurs become more intense when it comes to mysterious events like someone’s untimely death or the controversy around it. It opens many a Pandora’s boxes and lays down long term lessons for the nation and public figures or representatives. Apparently, the same seems to be happening in the case of the mysterious and untimely death of Sonali Phogat.
Family accuses Sonali’s associates
On 23rd of August, BJP leader Sonali Phogat was reportedly “brought dead” at the St Anthony Hospital in Goa. A Goa police official called it a prima facie case of a suspected heart attack. However, her family claimed otherwise. They started calling it to be a well planned murder.
Her brother Rinku Dhaka levelled grave charges against the associates of his deceased sister. He claimed that it was all done for her wealth and property. He went further and accused Sonali’s Personal Assistant Sudhir Sangwan and his friend Sukhwinder of raping and killing her.

Her family claimed that Sonali was given drug laced food by Sudhir. After which, she complained of restlessness. They added that she was scared and the duo had been threatening her. The family demanded that Goa Police file FIR in the case otherwise they would not permit her post-mortem in Goa.

Later, her brother Rinku submitted a written complaint in the Anjuna Police station. In his formal complaint he accused it to be a pre-planned murder. He named Sudhir and Sukhwinder as the prime suspect in the case. However, he claimed that the Goa Police was not registering his FIR against the two alleged accused. Therefore, the family demanded that the case be probed by CBI and post-mortem should be videographed otherwise it should be done in AIIMS Delhi or Jaipur.

Her Family claimed that Sonali contacted family members prior to her alleged murder. Reportedly, she talked to her mother, sister, and brother-in-law Aman Punia. It is claimed that she told Punia that her associates Sudhir and Sukhwinder committed a theft at her house three years ago and that she would file a police case against them. Additionally she said that Sangwan gave her drugged food and raped her.

The family complaint states, “She told Punia that Sangwan and his friend had committed a theft at her house in Hisar three years ago and that she would approach the police on her return to Hisar on August 23. She also said Sangwan had given her food laced with some intoxicant, raped her and made a video and was threatening to make the video viral on social media”.
Further, the complainant added that Sudhir had threatened Sonali of destroying her political and film career. Reportedly he kept her phones, property records, ATM cards, and house keys with him.
Brother of Sonali Phogat Rinku also claimed that the CCTV cameras, laptop and other crucial things from Sonali’s farmhouse in Haryana were missing after her death.
Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant categorically stressed that the matter is being probed with utmost sincerity. He stated that the Goa Police is conducting a proper investigation into the circumstances surrounding death of Sonali Phogat.
Amid accusations of the family and reports of her reported death due to sudden heart attack, the truth can only be known after a thorough and proper investigation. The charges levelled by the family of Sonali Phogat are very grave and hints that there could be some mysteries around this sudden death.
