Prakash Singh Badal was born on 8 December 1927. He is an Indian politician who served as Chief Minister of Punjab state from 1970 to 1971, 1977 to 1980, 1997 to 2002, and 2007 to 2017. He also supports the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), a regional political party centered on Sikhs. Political career

Prakash Singh Badal was re-elected as Minister for Community Development, Panchayati Raj, Animal Husbandry, Dairy, and Fisheries in 1969. In 1972, 1980, and 2002, he was the Leader of the Opposition.

In 1959, he married Surinder Kaur. The couple had two children, Sukhbir Singh Badal and Parneet Kaur, who is now married to Adesh Pratap Singh Kairon. Surinder Kaur died in 2011 after a long battle with cancer. His younger brother, Gurdas Singh Badal, was also a politician. Manpreet Singh Badal, his nephew, was Punjab’s Finance Minister.
During the Indian Emergency, he was first detained in the Karnal jail in connection with the Civil Liberties Agitation, and then under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act. From 1996 to 2008, he served as President of the Akali Dal.

Awards
The Akal Takht bestowed upon Badal the title of Panth Rattan Fakhr-e-Qaum (literally “Jewel of the religion, pride of the community”) on December 11, 2011.
He received this title in the form of a “Europa” (robe of honor), a sword, and a silver plaque with the citation of Panth Rattan Fakhr-e-Qaum at the Golden Temple complex in the presence of Jathedars of all five Takhts.
Badal was given this title for his service to the Sikh Panth, which included the creation of many Sikhism-related memorials such as Virasat-e-Khalsa, as well as being imprisoned for a long time and facing atrocities during various Akali movements.
