Singer and Song Writer Kim Jong-dae was born in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, on September 21, 1992. He made his EXO debut in the EXO-M sub-unit in 2012. He currently performs alongside fellow band members Xiumin and Baekhyun in the EXO-CBX sub-unit of EXO and SM the Ballad. Chen was born in Daejeon on September 21, 1992, and raised in Siheung’s Jeongwang-dong district.
In 2011, at the age of 19, he was hired by SM Entertainment as a trainee through the organization’s casting process. He was formally unveiled as the fourth Exo member on December 29, 2011. At the 2011 SBS Gayo Daejeon, he made his debut as an Exo member alongside Kai, Tao, and Luhan.

He also sang the duets “When I Was… When U Were…” with Krystal from f(x) and “A Day Without You” with Jonghyun from Shinee. On February 12, Chen live-performed his duets with Krystal and Jonghyun at the SM the Ballad Joint Recital.
In July 2014, Chen released “The Best Luck,” his first solo music since his debut, as the soundtrack to the SBS drama It’s Okay, That’s Love, which also features fellow Exo member D.O.
At the 5th So-Loved Awards and the 16th Seoul International Youth Film Festival, “The Best Luck” won the prizes for “Best OST by a Male Artist” and “Best OST Song,” respectively. On November 11, 2014, Chen was also invited to participate as a special guest at the 3rd APAN Star Awards, where he gave the song a live performance.
Solo
Along with fellow bandmates Chanyeol and Lay, Chen co-wrote the lyrics for “Promise,” a song from the reissue of Exo’s second studio album Exodus, in 2015.
Kim Jong Dae made his musical theatre debut in the 2015 performance of In the Heights by SM C&C, portraying the part of Benny. Under the guise of “Legendary Guitar Man,” he also competed in King of Mask Singer and finished as runner-up in the eleventh round.
