Change is the only constant. JMM leader and CM Hemant Soren ran a controversial tenure as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. Reportedly, he ran a multitude of illegalities believing him to be above the law. However, he forgot that the wheels of Justice may be slow but it grinds exceedingly fine. His karma has finally caught up with him and may soon have to face the music of law for all his alleged illegalities.
End of Political roads for Hemant Soren?
The politics of Jharkhand is going to change big time. As per media reports, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has submitted its opinion to Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais regarding the mining lease case. Soon, he will officially announce the report sent to him by the ECI.

It is reported that after the ECI has recommended to disqualify CM Hemant Soren from the state assembly. After this development he may have to vacate his post as the CM of Jharkhand. This will change the politics of the state entirely, as it had been in the clutches of the Soren family.
Earlier, Jharkhand Governor Bais had received a formal complaint from BJP alleging that CM Hemant Soren allotted a mining lease to himself. The opposition, BJP had sought Soren’s disqualification as MLA. They levelled that mining lease allotment is a case of “office of profit” and “misuse of power” by the CM as the Mining Minister. Evidently, it was alleged that the Mining Minister Hemant Soren allotted a mining lease to himself.

Interestingly, this allotment to Hemant Soren was accepted by his counsel in the court. The Advocate General of the state, representing CM Soren in Court, termed it a ‘mistake’.
To ascertain the fact of the mining lease case, the Governor had referred the matter to the Election Commission for its report. This is the standard procedure as per Article 192 of the Constitution in regard to disqualification of a Member of legislative house.
Chronology of the case
It all started when Former CM Raghubar Das met with Governor Ramesh Bais accusing Hemant Soren of this grave illegality. After which, the case has been ongoing in courts and before the Governor who can only take action on the advice of the Election Commission.

The legal team of CM Hemant Soren presented its argument before the ECI on BJP’s accusation levelled against CM Soren. His legal team argued that the alleged violation by CM did not apply in the case and he should not be disqualified from the state assembly. It concluded its argument on 12th of August. After which BJP, petitioner in the case, gave a rejoinder. Both the sides completed their submissions to the poll panel by 18th of August.
Now since the ECI has given its report to the Governor and the result is clear as a day sky, the days of CM Hemant Soren in the power circles seems to be numbered. This case has mounted legal trouble for him not just in the political realm but also in his personal life. He may have to face serious legal charges for this alleged illegal mining lease allotment and could even face punishment for it, if proven guilty.
However, his disqualification from the state assembly will have a long term repercussion on the state politics. It is high chance that this will end the autocratic control of Soren family over state politics and Sorens may be down and out for once and for all.
