For the last few decades, the politics of the state of Uttar Pradesh had no leader to unite the people under a collective identity. However, the incumbent Chief Minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath, is the only leader who ensured maximum identity groups are considered under a collective umbrella of Sanatan Dharma. On the other hand, as per some political analysts, CM Yogi was not able to cover every identity group and thus missed out on the Parshuram Bhakts.
With the full-fledged preparations being carried out for the upcoming 2024 elections, Uttar Pradesh is being considered a crucial state for political parties. In light of this, the Bhartiya Janata Party is all set to celebrate Parshuram, a Brahmin Bhagavan, with the development of Jalalabad as his birthplace. As an additional development, the region is also being considered for expanding to a tourist circuit covering at least five religious sites.
Parshuram Circuit
Jitin Prasada, the head of The Ministry of Public Works Department, a Brahmin himself, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism have undertaken this project of developing the city of Jalalabad, which is believed to be the birthplace of Parshuram.
The project will be undertaking a ‘Parshuram Circuit’, starting from Jalalabad along with Naimisaranya in Sitapur, Maharishi Dadhichi Ashram in the Mishrikh area of Sitapur, Gola Gokar Nath in Lakhimpur Kheri, and Gomti Udgam in the Madhotana area of Pilibhit. The development of these sites will contribute to good road connectivity, with wayside amenities.
While considering these sites as economic growth for tourism, the PWD minister said, “Before the elections, they (opposition) used Parshuram as a political tool, and then forgot about it afterward and are not even talking about it. However, the BJP leadership is going to not just develop a Parshuram Janmasthal in Jalalabad but also a Parshuram Circuit.”
As reported by The Indian Express, the PWD and the Culture Minister had first pitched the idea of promoting Jalalabad as a tourist destination three months ago, during a meeting with Finance Minister Suresh Khanna in Shahjahanpur.
Considering Parshuram as sacred to Brahmins, the recent move is believed to be an effort by the BJP to fight with its pro-Thakur image among the masses of Uttar Pradesh to be specific.
Putting halt to the rumour
The Indian political stature believes to exist under a tight noose, where the formulation of Parshuram circuit is considered as a BJP effort in clearing out the fog around the rumours. To dig into the details, it is allegedly believed that the UP-BJP’s pro-Thankur image is the motive of the recent project. However, it’s clearly the opposition tactic to target the leading political party in light of the upcoming elections.
However, understanding the background, it is significant to note that the opposition is trying to encircle BJP from every aspect. For the fulfilment of the same, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) tried to provoke Parshuram Bhakts against the BJP.
To grab a political advantage over BJP, the opposition parties tried to lure the citizens through their empty promises, if voted in power. In the wake of CM Yogi Adityanath supporting the identity group which originally catered to the oppositions, the SP and BSP tried to provoke people by opining that the BJP is allegedly ignoring the Brahmins and Kshatriyas.

Empty promises cannot fulfil the political agendas
For grabbing the long awaited winning edge in politics, the SP and BSP lured the Parshuram Bhakts, which caused a backlash to BJP. During the elections, while the BSP had promised a grand Parshuram statue if voted to power, the opposition parties had also said it would declare Parshuram Jayanti a holiday.
During the 2022 Assembly polls, BSP chief Mayawati had promised to build a statue and hospitals in the name of Parshuram if voted to power. Her promise came days after the Samajwadi Party said that it will build statues of Parshuram in the state if it forms the government in 2022. Moreover, the Congress also demanded the Yogi Adityanath government to declare Parshuram Jayanti as a state holiday.
The empty promises made by the opposition parties on building infrastructure and statues of Bhagwan Parshuram was aimed at the Brahmin voters, who are said to be unhappy with the Yogi Adityanath government.

Empty vote–banks compelled the oppositions to divide people
The SP and BSP clearly know that Bhagwan Parshuram connects both the Brahmins and Kshatriyas, who always strengthened their support to the BJP. Further, by fakely portraying the Yogi Adityanath government’s support to Yadavs and other identity groups, the oppositions tactfully twisted the narrative for their political gain. All this was a planned tactic in light of fulfilling their vote-banks.
Almost every politician tried to divide the different identity groups for the sake of their vote-banks. However, it was only CM Yogi Adityanath who got his government divided equally in catering to different groups. Therefore, Yogi’s decisions of building a ‘Parshuram Circuit’ will not only help BJP shed its rumoured anti-Brahmin image, but it will also prove to be the last nail in the coffins of BSP and SP.
