Sonia Gandhi, please get off your high horse

Gandhi Sonia

It is the beauty of Indian democracy that an ordinary Indian can go on to become the CM of a state or even PM/President of the country. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, PM Narendra Modi, and President Droupadi Murmu vindicate this magnanimous trait of Indian democracy. However, it seems that the grand old party, Congress, which has ruled for more than six decades, is finding this hard to digest. Its autocratic and dynastic ways of functioning have routed it out from the national landscape but It still has the arrogance and audacity to act above the laws. Its leader Sonia Gandhi and others act as if they are some kind of Queen/king or a demigod.

Elite mentality and sense of entitlement

Dynastic politicians and leaders of the cabal in Congress are finding it hard to digest the success of a tribal woman. They can’t shed away their elitism and sense of entitlement. In their arrogance, they are continuously demeaning the highest post in the country, that is, President. In a response to a media person, Congress senior leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary went on to insult the most respected chair/post in the country.

The media person had asked the Congress leader, “you were going to Rashtrapati Bhavan, but you were not allowed to go?

To this Adhir Ranjan gave a very disgraceful response. He said, “Will try to go even today, India’s ‘Rashtrapatni’ is for everyone. Why not for us?” The media person immediately tried to correct the Congress leader on this abhorrent statement. But either in his urge for wokeness or his sense of elitism, he demeaned the most reputed post in the country. He tried to mock and ridicule the President’s post. This only exposed his insensitivity and sexist mentality.

The controversy soon spiralled. To clean up his mess, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury clarified, “It has happened because of slip of tongue. I will personally meet the President and apologize in this matter.”

This is not the first time the Congress-led opposition tried to disgrace the highest constitutional post of the country.

From the very start, numbers were heavily stacked in favour of the NDA. It was obvious that Honourable Droupadi Murmu will be the next President of the country. Even then, the Congress-led opposition threw dirt at her. Some leaders rejected her work; some questioned her loyalty to the tribal community. Some went further to call her a rubber stamp. It looked like after the heat of the election, better sense would prevail in them. But Congress being Congress has stooped to a new low with this sexiest remark of Congress politician Adhir Ranjan.

Sonia Gandhi venting her needless anger

Adhir Ranjan’s sexiest remark gave the ruling party, BJP, to go full offensive against the Congress party. Senior BJP leaders spoke against the remark. They leveled Congress as an anti-tribal, anti-women, and anti-Dalit party. The treasury benches wanted an apology from the party President Sonia Gandhi as she should have taken cognizance of such an atrocious, sexiest remark by her party leader. Instead, Sonia Gandhi gave a cold shoulder. She tried to deflect the issue. In an arrogant tone, she said, “Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had already apologized.”

When the Lok Sabha was adjourned, Congress President Sonia Gandhi went up to the treasury benches. She asked BJP leader Rama Devi, “Why am I being dragged into this?” To this Smriti Irani intervened and said Madam, I have taken your name.

This infuriated Congress President Sonia Gandhi. She arrogantly responded to BJP leader Smriti Irani. In a threatening tone, she said, ” You don’t talk to me.”

This degradation in politics is a result of dynastic politics. Dynastic leaders are stifling talent within the party and only Yes men are being promoted. Just like in any democracy, dynasty-led politics with no scope for meritocracy in parties are a menace in Indian democracy.

It seems that Congress has learned nothing from its continuous political humiliations. Its leaders seem to be high on arrogance. Even when the party is reduced to just two states, both unstable because of infighting, it runs like a monarchy or a privately owned business. It looks as if the party doesn’t want to come out of its ‘Paradise’. Its leaders still act like a king/queen whose dictates should be the rule and law for the nation.

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi should realise that it’s not the era of the UPA government when she can get away with saying anything and everything she wants. Her party has been out of power for more than eight-and-a-half years and people have voted out dynasties as well as Self-obsessed kings and queens of Politics. She should shun her political arrogance and start smelling the coffee. Now talented and hard-working individuals like Honourable Droupadi Murmu excel at the top not the sycophants of Congress.
