It has been a great misfortune of the country that it saw the freedom fighters through political lenses. The leftist politicians, who had no shame in drawing allegiance from the Chinese CCP, twisted the narrative of our freedom struggle. For political benefit, the Gandhi family kept appeasing their minority alliance partners. The leftists, who were not the most powerful political force yet they dominated the realm of academics.
They chalked down falsehoods in the name of Indian freedom struggle and its aeon old civilisational roots. They built the narrative to please their masters and glorify the Gandhi family. But as they say truth cannot be suppressed for a long time. India is rightfully reclaiming its history and civilisation. It is giving credits where it is due. The foremost example of this is shredding the litany of falsehoods around Veer Damodar Savarkar. His towering legacy was muddied with useless controversy which is being buried for good, by giving him the stature he deserved from the very beginning.
Savarkar is unparalleled in Indian Freedom Struggle
The Government of India is correcting a historic injustice. It has deflected all the naysayers’ canards around Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Contrary to the previous governments, it is eulogising the true patriot of the soil, Savarkar. Antim Jan, the monthly magazine of Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Smriti (GSDS) has dedicated its June edition on Savarkar. It has done so to mark his birth anniversary on May 28.
It has dedicated almost a one-third portion of its 68-page edition to works on Veer Savarkar. It also includes books written by the great man, Savarkar himself.

It is important to note that GSDS functions under the Ministry of Culture. The Prime Minister is its chairperson. That is why this due credit to Veer Savarkar becomes more important.

The foreword of the magazine has compared Savarkar’s historical stature “no less than that of (Mahatma) Gandhi”. GSDS vice-chairman and BJP leader Vijay Goel wrote the foreword calling Savarkar “the great patriot”.
Goel said, “It is sad that those who have not spent even a day in jail (during the freedom struggle) and have not contributed to the society, criticise a patriot like Savarkar. Savarkar’s place in history and stature in the freedom struggle is no less than that of Gandhi.”
He said that it is unfortunate that despite his contribution, Savarkar did not find his “due place in history of independence for many years”.

GSDS has stated that it will continue to dedicate upcoming editions to freedom fighters to celebrate India’s 75 years of Independence. Interestingly, GSDS, established in 1984, works to propagate the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Nominated Gandhians and representatives of various government departments guide its activities. These remarks coming from Gandhian thinkers, historians and academicians are an egg on the face of those who project personal rifts between Mahatma Gandhi and Veer Savarkar; falsely blame Savarkar for Gandhi’s assassination.
Savarkar: “Not a personality but a thought”
Essays and articles on the Hindutva ideologue, Savarkar have been written by many acclaimed personalities including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Former PM Atal ji in his essay terms Savarkar “not a personality but a thought”. His essay mentions that way before Mahatma Gandhi, Savarkar raised voices for uplifting people from the “Harijan” community.
In the magazine, Marathi theatre and film writer Shrirang Godbole has written extensively on the episode of Savarkar and Gandhi’s assassination trial (veer savarkar aur mahatma Gandhi hatya abhiyog). Author Madhusudan Cherekar wrote about the relationship between Gandhi and Savarkar.

GSDS magazine, Antim Jan, also has an essay on Hindutva, written by Savarkar from his book of the same name. The magazine also introduces readers to books written by Savarkar.
It is great to see that India is slowly moving away from needless political correctness. The plague of pseudo Western-liberal mindset and monkey balancing to please Islamo-leftist lobby is slowly being cured.
India won its freedom struggle because of the hard and toil of millions like Savarkar. Hence it was a historic injustice to tarnish him for political gains and minimise his stature in the Indian freedom struggle. Savarkar ignited patriotism through his heart-piercing poetry and nobody can cage his thought provoking ideas written in the interest of the nation. He was one of the tallest figures in the Indian freedom struggle and it is an official fact whether the leftists like it or not.
