India is the largest democracy in the world where citizens enjoy their rights. To fulfil this goal, it takes honest bureaucrats to eliminate corruption for the smooth functioning of democracy. However, the arrogance of some office-bearers hinders this practice. One such incident was observed in Lakhisarai, where a bureaucrat yelled at a teacher for his Indian attire.

Currently, a video is circulating on social media where a District Magistrate can be seen bashing a school headmaster for his Indian attire of “Kurta Pyjama” at work. The viral video shows DM Sanjay Kumar Singh of Bihar‘s Lakhisarai district, rebuking Nirbhay Kumar Singh, the headmaster of Girls Primary School Balgudar. While commenting on his appearance, DM said that Nirbhay looks more like a politician than a teacher.

The District Magistrate was at the school campus for an inspection on government orders. Soon, he called the education officer on the spot and asked for the headmaster’s suspension. DM Sanjay Kumar Singh ordered the cancellation of his salary and instructed for a show-cause notice, as to why he should not be expelled from the post.
Further, the video shows how the DM Sanjay Kumar Singh yelled at the headmaster when he tried to put his point of view. He explicitly called him to shut his mouth and also remarked that if he wishes to retain the “Kurta Pyjama” attire, then he should better contest elections rather than practicing teaching as a profession.
Indian culture forced to fit in shirt-pant
The incident clearly shows that the official wanted the teacher to be present with westernized clothing of shirt and pants in front of the students. The district magistrate outrageously remarked that someone wearing loose clothes cannot be called a teacher. His proclamation and forceful implementation of western clothing is apparently, a clear-cut insult to Indian traditions and customs.
Indians are deeply rooted in their culture and traditions. It’s a custom to wear a kurta pyjama or dhoti, as it has always been a sense of pride for Indians. This has been inculcated in our culture and thus, the kurta pyjama has even been the first priority for PM Modi. Whether it’s visiting any inaugural site or attending the highest-level meeting of G20 countries, PM Narendra Modi has left no stone unturned in promoting the traditional attire of India.

But the culture in which we grew up continuously vilifies Indian attires. Particularly, Bollywood has left no stone unturned in passing on the message that “Goras” are superior. Celebrities like Vinod Khanna and Shami Kapoor were considered the best actors during their time and this gives an obvious answer to their popularity in India. Vinod Khanna overshadowed the legend of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan majorly because of his apparent modern attire.
The mentality that “Goras” are superior and browns are inferior, is the actual cause of India’s stereotypical society that exists even in the 21st century. Especially after liberalization in 1991 when it was common to represent dhoti-wearing and Tikal flaunting people as villains.
The promoters of westernization
The phenomenon percolated down the society as well. The trend of westernized clothing has time and again been promulgated by various bureaucrats and personalities who are perceived as ideals by ordinary members of society.
Adopting the westernized look has always been considered savage for generations, irrespective that tight clothes like shirt and pants were initially introduced because that was suitable for the western weather. However, various bureaucrats of today’s times have made it a norm by transforming the Indian lives with their authoritative agendas.
It is not the first time that these officials have shown their arrogance. In May, there was another public servant who tried to overuse his power for his own interests. The Delhi government’s run Thyagraj Stadium was asked to vacate the stadium so that an IAS officer could walk his dog on the premises.

History is filled with such plaintive cases where public servants are infringing the rights and misleading the people, while in reality, they are called the preservers of brown sahib greed. There is an immediate and intrinsic need to control this mentality before the Indian culture gets destroyed.
