After the servant, time for the master, Pratik Sinha to face the music

In the garb of Fact-check, several propaganda outlets have fanned communal hatred. Their fake news and malicious agenda became a reason for many violent incidents, arson and rioting. The Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair is a prime example of this nexus. He spun the media debates and dog whistled Islamists against Nupur Sharma. Now his Karma has come back to bite him and he is facing the wrath of law. But he is just the tip of the iceberg. His case is revealing all the dirty dark secrets of this fake news peddling nexus.

Legal troubles mounting further

The alleged fact-checker Mohammad Zubair was arrested by the Special cell of Delhi Police. Initially, he was charged for his objectionable tweets on Hindu deities.

But his legal troubles increased further when the prosecution added several other sections of the IPC. Further he has been charged with criminal conspiracy and sections of FCRA. The Enforcement Directorate too has joined the investigation.

While hearing his bail plea, the Special Public prosecutor Atul Srivastava pointed out how Mohammad Zubair had ‘cleverly’ changed sim just a day before the investigation.

SPP Atul Srivastava: He came to office of special cell with phone. When it was analyzed, it was found that prior to that day, he has been using another sim. When he received notice, he took out the same and put it in new mobile. Please see how clever the person is.

The SPP Atul Srivastava pointed out how Mohammad Zubair violated the FCRA Act. According to the SPP, Zubair had accepted foreign donations through Razor gateway. The foreign donations came from multiple Nations including Pakistan and Syria.

SPP Atul Srivastava said, ” If you accept something as donation etc from a person of foreign country then it’s a contravention. As per our CDR analysis, he has accepted through Razor gateway, from Pakistan, Syria etc which all things require further investigation.”

Revelations in the Court

In order to save his client, Mohammad Zubair’s counsel Vrinda Grover threw the fact checking organisation, Alt News, under the bus. Grover defended his client Zubair and denied receiving donations in personal capacity. However, in this attempt, Grover exposed the ‘fact checking’ company Alt News.

She said,” Your honour was misled when told that the accused has received it (foreign contributions). Alt News runs under a company under sec. 8. They are saying I am a journalist, I cannot receive FCRA. This is to the company, not to me.”

Within hours of these great revelations, “coincidentally” the Razorpay donation account of Alt News was deactivated.  Further, the Alt News has always been misleading about its source of funding.

Pravda Media (parent co), a not-for-profit, not just making huge profits but systematically retaining most of them.

This revelation of foreign funding for Alt News will be legally damaging to the directors and co founders of the fake news peddling company. As, the Co founder Pratik Sinha has been lying through his teeth about the FCRA donations. Alt News contravended FCRA to collect foreign illegit donations. By taking donations from foreign sources it kept on spreading fake news and created rifts within the society.

You must announce which silicon valley company is funding @AltNews. We don't have FCRA, and accepting foreign contribution would be an offense, and the directors can be jailed for the same. Please announce the company's name so that every neo-Chowkidar's wet dream can come true. https://t.co/zy6opL5jLU

— Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) May 22, 2019

These important developments and revelations can put the ‘master’ of Alt News, Pratik Sinha, behind bars. As mentioned by him, in his above tweet, accepting foreign donations without FCRA licence is an offence and the violators will be jailed for this crime. Now that the co-founder himself, in the courts, has accepted the fact of foreign donations, the other co-founder Pratik Sinha will soon be behind bars.

Further, Pratik Sinha too has gone on a spree in deleting objectionable tweets against Hinduism which are already viral on Social Media. Just like Mohammad Zubair, his partner in crime, Pratik Sinha has made several tweets hurting religious sentiments of Hindus and demeaning and mocking the Hindu deities.

See many people posting pictures of Ganesha. You guys really believe a man had an elephants head?

— Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) September 19, 2015

It is a fact that ‘the wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine’. So, for far too long the master of lies and the propaganda outlet, Alt News, has evaded the law. But these revelations by the counsel of his partner in crime, co-founder Mohammad Zubair, and his tweets hurting religious sentiments of Hindus will soon bring him to the doors of Justice and suffer the same fate as his partner Zubair is facing.
