Political career
When former Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy filed an FIR against popular actor Ghosh in January, citing a 2015 message from her social media profile, she was accused of “hurting Hindu sensibilities.”
A meme of the Hindu god Shiva was included in the screenshot of the “objectionable” tweet Roy attached with his police report. In Guwahati, a different lawsuit was also brought against the actor. Ghosh then reported receiving “death and rape threats” online to the Kolkata Police’s Cyber Cell.
The star said the malicious meme didn’t represent her ideas and that her account had been “hacked” while she wasn’t active on the page. On February 25, 2021, Ghosh formally joined the TMC at a gathering to which Mamata Banerjee was invited.
After Abhishek Banerjee is fired from his position, Sayani Ghosh is named “president of the youth wing of Trinamool Congress” in June 2021.
Her candidacy for the Asansol Dakshin seat in the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election was announced in March 2021 by the All India Trinamool Congress. She was, however, beaten by Agnimitra Paul, a Bjp candidate.
