Sandhya Raju had her primary education at The School KFI Chennai run by the Krishnamurti Foundation, attended high school at Bala Vidya Mandir in Chennai, and temporarily attended Loyola College in Chennai, and earned a Bachelor of Psychology degree from Osmania University.
At the young age of 10, she started her training as a Kuchipudi dancer under Vempati Chinna Satyam at the Kuchipudi Art Academy, which was right next door to her home. She also received instruction from renowned Kuchipudi Guru Kishore Mosalikanti. and followed his instructions to accomplish her Rangapravesham.
She married Rama Raju, the son of industrialist Ramalinga Raju, the eldest son of Ramco Industries Chairman P. R. Venkatrama Raja.
Career
Since she was a teen, Sandhya Raju has been performing Kuchipudi. Her debut performance was a minor part of Rajapalayam-staged Popular Dance Drama Ksheera Saagara Madhanam, directed by her Guru.
Sandhya Raju kept playing minor parts in a number of Vempati Chinna Satyam’s dance dramas. In his final Dance Drama, Gopika Krishna, Sandhya was chosen to portray Lord Krishna in the lead part at the age of 15. With her Guru, Sandhya traveled to the US. Sandhya then started her training under Guru Shri Mosalikanti, a revered pupil of Vempati Chinna Satyam.
Sandhya has frequently performed for Guru Kishore Mosalikanti’s ensemble before making her solo performance debut at her Rangapravesham in Chennai’s Music Academy. The event’s guests, Ms. Leela Samson and Shri Chidambaram, were very complimentary of her debut solo.
