Varanasi blast mastermind Waliullah Khan cried like a hyena and begged for mercy but he will be hanged

It must take another level of courage to ask for mercy after killing multiple human beings. But one has to pay for his sins no matter what. Terrorist Waliullah Khan is no different and thus, is now facing the music for his deeds.

Waliullah Khan awarded a death sentence

Waliullah Khan, the primary accused in Varanasi serial blast case 2006, which had claimed at least 20 lives, was sentenced to death on Monday under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code, and Explosives Act.

The court also awarded life imprisonment to Khan for an attempt to murder charge and ordered him to pay fines.

Sessions Judge Jitendra Kumar Sinha, had convicted Waliullah on June 4, 2022, for the offenses. But the observation was reserved for the pronouncement of judgment on Monday.

The District Government counsel had argued that “it had been proved that this was a terrorist incident.” He explained the court that “a one-and-a-half-year-old girl had died, and the convict was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the court.”

“The incident that took place was to shake and shake the hearts of the people,” the government counsel submitted.

“There has been loss of life and many people were injured in this, due to which the work of destabilizing the nation and society should be done and no heat should be taken in punishment for such crime. Keeping in view all the above circumstances, it would be justified to punish him with death,” the Counsel added.

It is pertinent to note that the blasts had taken place 16 years ago at Varanasi’s Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple and a railway station.

A special task force had claimed in 2006 that “Khan was linked to Bangladesh-based terror outfit Harkat-ul-Jehad al-Islami and was the mastermind of the blasts.”

Varanasi blasts, 2006

On 7th of March, at 6.15 pm, the first blast took place inside the Sankat Mochan temple in the Lanka police station. Then, at around 6.30 pm, another bomb exploded outside the first-class retiring room at Varanasi cantonment railway station.

Approximately 20 people died and over 100 were injured in the blasts.

Moreover, a cooker bomb reportedly was also found near the railings of a railway crossing in Dashashwamedh Police Station on the same day.

The Allahabad High Court had moved the case to the Ghaziabad district court and 121 witnesses were produced before the court.

Khan was a resident of Phoolpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. In April 2006, the special task force had claimed that “Khan was linked to a terrorist outfit in Bangladesh Harkat-ul-jehad Al Islami and was the mastermind behind the blasts.”

Khan, a mufti, was slapped with six cases registered against him at Lanka and Dashashwamedh police stations and the Government Railway Police precinct in Varanasi.

He was acquitted in the cooker bomb case due to insufficient evidence.

What a shameful act by Waliullah and then government

The whole incident depicts how cowardly and disgusting man Waliullah is! The man shamefully took 20 lives leaving many orphans, widows, and without children. Well, you cannot expect anything else from a terrorist. But then the terrorist should also not expect the judiciary or the government to sympathise with him. What is even more shameful is that the Varanasi blast mastermind Waliullah Khan, despite committing such heinous crimes, cried like a hyena and begged for mercy.

His counsel urged that “convict is a peace-loving citizen and is a poor person, it is on him to maintain his family.”He also added, “His financial condition is not good, no one has seen the incident. He has been detained in jail for almost 16 years, and under section 302 he shall be punished with the minimum that is imprisonment for life and the term can be decided in years.”

How can you ask for mercy when you are responsible for the death of multiple innocents? How do you expect the judiciary to help you when the crime you’ve committed only suggests one thing for you – the death sentence. The audacity to do so itself is the proof that you deserve no sympathy and should be hanged to death no matter how much you cry like a hyena.

Just when we thought that only the terrorist can have such an audacity to beg for mercy, we had Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh Yadav to the rescue of the vulture who is responsible for 20 deaths.

In 2012, the Samajwadi Party was slammed by the Allahabad high court for its attempt to withdraw prosecution against Waliullah and his associate Shameem, who were charge-sheeted for the Varanasi blast. The ‘responsible’ SP wanted to fulfil its pre-poll promise of withdrawing ‘false cases’ against Muslims. The party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, had also moved a notification seeking withdrawal of cases against the accused.

You see, the Samajwadi Party high command can put the country at risk, for their petty politics to appease Muslims.

Thankfully, we have now Bharatiya Janata Party in the centre as well as the state of Uttar Pradesh. Under the saffron party’s rule, these terrorists are being meted the treatment they deserve. The new government had promised retribution and now it is time they have put action to their word, giving closure to the families of the victims.

The recent verdict to award death sentence to terrorist Waliullah is a clear message that no anti-national elements will be spared anymore. Such a verdict will put the fear of law into those who think that they can do anything they want to harm our culture and destroy our national ethos.
